MAHABHARATA
INTRODUCTION:

Mahabharata is one of the two major epics of India.It was written by Vyasa.This epic portrays the real meaning of life .It also includes lessons of life from Bhagvad Gita. The epic is about the bloodshed and war between the Kaurvas (sons of Dhritrashtra) and the Pandavas(Sons of Pandu).
Shantanu (king of Hastinapur) was married to Ganga.They gave birth to Devavrat (also known as Bheesma . He promised his father that he will not fight for the throne and his step brothers will become the king.Shantanu also married Satyavati and gave birth to two sons(Chitrangada and Vichitravirya).Chitrangada died before marriage and Vichitravirya married Ambika and Ambalika. Ambika gave birth to Dhritrashtra who was blind and Ambalika gave birth to Pandu who was a weakling.Dhritrashtra got married to Gandhari who gave birth to hundred sons and one daughter .
Pandu got married to Kunti and Madri .He had five sons including Yudhishtra ,Bheem ,Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev. After the death of Pandu due to some curse ,Madri commited suicide(sati) and Kunti came back to Hatinapur with her five sons. Pandavas got married to Draupadi(daughter of Drupad) .The kingdom of hastinapur was devided into two parts in order to prevent any war between Kaurvas and Pandavas.Khandavprastha was the part which was given to Pandavas where lived a snake called Takshak(enemy of humankind) and had support of Lord Indra. But Arjuna defeated Takshak and later the place was given the name Indraprastha.Indraprastha was not an independent kingdom.A Rajsui yagya had to be performed before it to become an independent kingdom .Shakuni (king of Gandhar) was the brother of Gan...

Yudhistir was a great strategist. On the day of the war, he went to the enemy side to seek blessings from elders. In reality he made a covert deal with them, where all of them agreed to help him and unfolded the secrets of defeating them .Bheesma told Yudhishtir how to stop him. He is also know as Dharamraj . His calmness made him a good leader but on the otherside these trait made him lose his Kingdom.
VIDUR:
Vidur was the half-brother to the kings Dhritarashtra and Pandu of Hastinapura , born the son of the sage Vyasaand Parishrami, the maid to the queens Ambika and Ambalika . He was an incarnation of the god of death and Yama Dharma Raja, who had been cursed by the sage Mandavya for punishing the latter more harshly than his transgression warranted..
He was the Mahamantri and chief advisor of Hastinapur.
