When I was born in Iraq I was 12 years old. When I was 12 years old I traveled to San Diego California because Iraq wasn’t safe. Iraq had bad schools and education. In Iraq’s schools, the teachers hits us with ruler if we don’t follow the directions and if we don’t do our homework.They did not know how to teach, the schools there were dirty we had no lunch at all. We decided to travel to San Diego California because we heard it’s a good place to live in and to have a good education.When I came here, I realized that a lot of stuff are different. 1 thing that is different is education. Here we have good education, our teachers are smart, they don’t hit us and we have free lunch too which we didn’t in Iraq. In Iraq, schools were dirty and teachers were bad. With the collapse of the Syrian government and an outbreak of violence, there are 13.5 million people in Syria that are currently in need of humanitarian assistance . The hot topic in the United States is whether or not we should be accepting these war refugees into our country. The main concern is the fear that members of terrorist groups in Syria will also be making their way into the United States. The Council on American-Islamic Relations stated that, "Defeating ISIS involves projecting American ideals to the world. Governors who reject those fleeing war and persecution abandon our ideals and instead project our fears to the world.” The United States has accepted refugees ever since legislation passed the “Displaced Persons Act of 1948”. This allowed admission to the United States for hundreds of thousands of war refugees during the time of World War II . Although some argue that allowing Syrian war refugees into the United States would compromise national security, during World War II the United States proved that accepting German and Italian war refugees was not detrimental to the country. We need to learn from our past history and continue to be the humanitarian country that we have been for the last 239 years.

People do not understand how bad womens’ lives are in Iraq. Women in Iraq live in constant fear of being threatened or murdered for doing normal day things, such as wearing makeup and going to school. Women in Iraq have very few rights and do not have freedom. Women are vulnerable; deprived of education; fear honor deaths; and have to follow strict guidelines that, if not followed, result in serious consequences.

While we were incredibly fortunate enough to escape the war, we continued to carry the trauma and distress of war well into our time in America, as several of our friends and relatives remained in our war torn hometown. I was too young to remember the trauma caused directly from the war that my parents are doomed to live with, However the pain of having to hear my mother sobbing through the night over the death of her sister is beyond enough to remind me of the tremendous opportunities I have been given here in America. My family was extremely fortunate to escape the war, but it would not have been possible without the best resource of all, my parents. The amount of steadfast, unconditional commitment which my parents had and continue to have for our family is beyond my level of comprehension. Jordan has witnessed many waves of refugees since its inception in 1946, with some waves coming even before independence. Despite its very limited natural and financial resources, Jordan has hosted refugees from the Palestinian territories, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, and Sudan. The status of various ethnic groups that have settled in Jordan range from full integration into Jordanian society to no or very little integration. For example, Circassian and Chechens are full members of Jordanian society while Sudanese and Somali refugees are widely treated as outcasts. Therefore, it is imperative that NGOs focus their limited financial resources on those refugees who have very little integration in society and who are therefore more vulnerable. In addition, it is important these organizations are aware of the demographics of the refugee population in Jordan and what services are most needed.

It is influential in reaching a peaceful resolution, and it acts as a refresher because without it society would be in chaos. War has allowed great empires, like the Napoleon Empire, to flourish and prosper, and has caused great empires, like the Roman Empire, to fall. War is needed in order to maintain a healthy and stable society. It is beneficial to the strength and socialization of a society, the health of its people, the productivity of the economy, and it can be used to force social changes and call for justice.

Nicholas Sparks, Norman Rockwell, and Robert Frost do an excellent job depicting this quote in their work. Nicholas Sparks is famous for his romantic novels; many of which involve a man in the military falling in love with a woman and doing whatever it takes to be with one another. Norman Rockwell’s paintings are simple but also show the love and war. Though Robert Frost’s poem are not particularly about love and war; he does have many poems about love between two people as well as poems about war and what it takes to survive. All three people are extremely talented and I enjoy all of their work.
