Imperialism of the Congo River
As history has shown, there are numerous of issues that overtake our world as a whole. There are problems that have little to no effect at all. Then, on the other hand they can be very detrimental to our society in a horrific manner. And these are the exact problems that never go away which causes a dividend in our world. Some accept it to themselves that the world isn’t perfect and everything can’t be fixed. But you always have people who have a disagreement and will try their hardest to turn something around that can’t be moved or changed at all. In Heart of Darkness, issues of power and culture was tested on great scale. As Marlow traveled along the Congo River, his political views were tested as he was made aware of the environment and the reality of light and darkness and the contradicting cultures surrounding him.

It also condemns the colonization in Marlow’s eyes. All of the events that occurred all had significant meanings which then connected to one another into something more meaningful. As light and dark was mentioned on a regular basis it was made full aware that these was imagery and symbols to the Europeans and Africans as they went through a power struggle for some part of the novel. But as the novel went on these two contradicting cultures seems as if they were merging together to make everything even more confusing. This led to Marlow’s mental and physical state being tested to the full extent. His mental state was tested the most and it failed horrifically. As he made his full return to his home he wasn’t the same at all because he witnessed the underlying changes of the colonization and culture in Africa as it never seemed to add up from the beginning.
