Should The Government Spies on Its Citizens?
“You can’t have 100 percent security and then also 100 percent privacy and zero inconvenience” (Barack Obama). Based on the quotation, is it worth it to give up freedom for safety? It is understandable that security and privacy are two of the main problems related to American citizens and it was only brought to our attention after the former contactor of the NSA, Edward Snowden, leaked the secret to the world. The National Security Agency (NSA) started to spy on American citizens along with the claim to protect us from terrorist attacks. Some people believe the spying system will keep the country safer while others think that the government is going to have full control over people lives. However, the fact that everyone can clearly see is America neither having security or privacy. So should the government continue to spy on its citizens? Should everyone be quiet like the way NSA is spying on them or what is the best solution for American citizens?

Nothing can beat us if we are here for each other. Therefore, U.S. government needs to follow three of the following solutions in order to gain full support from its citizens. First, apologize to the citizens about running the illegal spying system in silence behind others’ backs in many years. Then, start gaining trust back by teaching people about the benefit of the spying system along with the guarantee of not using them for any other purpose than everyone’s safety. Lastly, allow American citizens to use their own civil rights which is voting when it comes to their own benefit. At the end, either freedom or safety, people have to make the right decision for themselves. “The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power”
