In preparing for the Assessment One midterm, my main goal was to achieve an “A” letter grade. Specifically, to correctly answer each question to my best understanding of what the content was particularly asking in one or two parts.

On Lecture Monday, my main focus was to take notes from the lecture, such as keyword definitions and the main questions derived from significant passages from the assigned chapter readings. For instance, if the slide displayed the word ‘symbolism’, I would write down the word plus the definition. That way, I could look at that particular keyword definition and study it later on for the midterm. Also, if there was a particular passage mentioned in lecture, I would copy that down so I could analyze it more in …show more content…

By participating or paying attention to what was being said during the discussion, my chances of correctly completing the midterm increased. In this way, I can apply that same information I learned when answering the content questions asked on the midterm. By mainly listening to the discussion, although contributing verbally may have helped me more in connecting historical detail to fictional literature, clearly illustrated how novels clarify and produce historical detail.

Using Discussion Friday’s helped me to figure out the how to correctly answer the questions that were most likely to be on the exam. Conversely, I think including rationales with the questions was beneficial for the people who did not come up with the questions, to better understand what the person who formed the question was looking for. As a result, I was also able to implement the interpretations of the discussed in class, when finalizing my answers to my writing assignments and exams. An example of how a Discussion Friday supported my composition process, was the first discussion question from Group Two. In short, the question asked what the juxtaposition between the crowd’s perception and the reality of Dimmesdale’s confession of his affair can teach us. Various people answered that this situation teaches us how historically, the Puritan community treated men differently from women, and how Dimmesdale’s high position greatly affected the crowd
