USE OF SIX SIGMA DMAC APPROACH IN RING SPINNING PROCESS ABSTRACT The idea of this research is to apply Six sigma approach through DMAIC methodology. In ring spinning process of a yarn manufacturing industry there found breakage of yarn as a key problem. There found frequent breakage of yarn in the ring spinning process. In this paper DMAIC methodology is applied to investigate the various causes of yarn breakage in ring spinning process. There are five phases in DMAIC methodology has been applied here. In Define phase process of yarn manufacturing is defined. In measure phase data collection is observed. In analyze and improve phase with the help of quality tools causes of breakage are identified and solution is suggested. I. INTRODUCTION Six sigma definition: Six sigma is a philosophy which is …show more content…
Steps in DMAIC methodology. The five important steps of DMAIC methodology are given below the following table 1. S.NO PHASE FUNCTION 1 Define The purpose of this step is to clearly express problem, target, potential resources available and scope of the project. Those informations are captured and composed together in a project charter document. The records collected are problem, voice of customers, critical to quality. 2 Measure This is a data collection step. The purpose of this process is to collect data by measuring the process capabilities in an industry. The good data collection is the heart of DMAIC process 3 Analyze This is the most important phase in a DMAIC process. Here usually root cause of variation and poor performance have been identified using quality tools. The large number potential root causes are identified and validated for elimination. 4 Improve The purpose of this step is to identify, examine, implement a solution to the problem. Here creative solutions are identified to eliminate the root cause of a problem in order to achieve the best performance of a process. Usually focused on simplest and easiest solutions to deploy
The initiation phase of a project is not complete without a clearly defined goal and realistic, measurable objectives that describe the business benefits which are expected to be delivered upon completion of a project (Laureate Educatio...
2. Alterative Solutions – Before this class when faced with a problem I would usually go with the first solution that seemed to fix the situation. However, establishing specific evaluation criteria is essential when valuing the merits of a potential solution. If a solution does not fit the criteria, it will not be successful. Judging alternatives through the same criteria allows you to produces the optimal solution and eliminate awful ones. When facing a strategic problem this process will be fundamental in making a
Act - In this phase ISMS improvements are implemented. Continuous monitoring of the process will ensure process improvement.
This step includes gathering facts before trying to figure out the solution to the issues or possible future issues. This is a very important step when making important business decision...
This is the second step that researches what is known about the specific problem type and potential responses. Being able to understand the local context of the problem and determines how the problem is currently being addressed. Looking at the problem and identifying the causes will be an entailment of an issue as well as collect data on the problem.
It is a step of defining the goals of the projects and the results are aimed at reaching certain levels of productivity of customer satisfaction. The second stage is measure, and it is the stage of collecting data and facts and evaluating current operational performance. The third stage is analyze with the purpose of developing methods and theories that will best suit the solving of the problem; it is also a stage of detecting cause-and-effect ties of the processes. The fourth stage is improve, it is aimed at generating ideas for reaching the desired process improvement. Finally, there is the control stage that is about monitoring the operations to find out whether the process of improvement is smooth and the problems were solved (Meredith & Shafer,
First is to examine each of those projects to the corporate objectives, compare and contrasting project selection criteria and justify why a project meets the selection criteria.
* Required involvement and sign-off from project sponsors on project charters. This can show the impact of their
Define the current situation - break down problem into component parts, identify major problem areas, develop a target improvement goal
After an ideal solution is selected and approved its execution through implementation is done to address the problem. All tasks in the implementation should be coordinated with a finite start and implementation closure deadlines as well as milestones. Program evaluation and Review (PERT) as well as Critical Path Method(CPM) are ideal to guide this stage.
Change Tuning – this involves a tuning phase which helps in discovering minor problems and necessary modifications to the process are proposed and introduced.

As previously mentioned, potential problem analysis or potential opportunity analysis was developed and introduced by Charles H. Kepner and Benjamin B. Tregoe as part of their initiatives to identify a suitable approach for problem-solving initiatives. Their work culminated in the publication of a book containing the problem-solving approach they had created, which included the
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
... Hicks pointed out that a process should be in place “to evaluate implementation and performance” (Hicks, 2000). Performance should be reevaluated on a periodic basis to evaluate the effectiveness of the solutions executed. If performance is within the acceptable area of the defined benchmarks then the solutions executed should continue. If performance is below the acceptable benchmarks the solutions plan should be reevaluated and adapted as needed.
