Clothing can be referred to as clothes or attire; it is materials formed to be worn and provide cover for the human body. Throughout time and places, people have used clothes for many different reasons. The reasons include protection from the elements and protection from anything else hazardous to the body, but as time passed clothing has not only been used for preservation of the body but as a luxury and for style. Throughout time clothes have also escalated to indicate social ranks or status and have also been used as a tool to differentiate social income classes and religious beliefs.

What problems might this pose and what positivity might this bring? Well, from my research, clothing evolved from an intersection of capitalism and socioeconomic classes. Clothing segregates people by portraying visible distinction amongst status, wealth class, modesty and even religion but also creates high revenue in today's market. Popular trends usually have that effect on the market. Fashion is a trend. Though fashion expresses individuality, spirituality and much more, it can also cause problems. Though there are many benefits to the use of clothing, there are many harms as well; maybe not physically but emotionally and mentally. It separates people in a negative way, where if you can't afford the trendy clothing you might not fit in where you might want to, affecting one’s self esteem. Certain events or occasions are met by a certain dressing standard that if the expectations are not met, it might have a negative effect on the way people look at you. For example, we all know one must dress appropriate and professional for a job interview, but even if you're extremely qualified for a job, if you aren't dressed accordingly, you might not get the job. It shows a sense of responsibility and respect, whether you lack it or not. Another example is wearing clothes that might reveal some skin; in some places that’s fine depending on your surroundings but in other places people might assume you enjoy revealing your body to attract sex. Clothing can be very deceiving, because it’s the first thing one sees when they see you. You can tell so much by what a person’s wearing and though we aren’t suppose to judge a book by its cover, that is kind of one of the purposes of clothes nowadays to communicate and portray your own individuality through style and self
