My general observation from the lecture is that many professionals in the education field were in attendance for the lecture because they too want change with education in America. Dr. Tienda was passionate about the subject. Her lecture had evidence to support her findings about inequality in the quality of education in America. She provided the audience with homework which was to become advocates for equal access to quality education in America to the point that the federal government has no choice but to create laws that would ensure equal access to quality education for all students in America.

Students that live lower socioeconomic areas do not have the same quality public education as students that live in a higher socioeconomic area. The students in lower socioeconomic areas receive a poor public education. These schools lack highly qualified teacher, and resources to be successful. The test scores are lower not because these students are not able to be educated but because the state is lacking in funding for these schools.
2. Who’s job is it to ensure equal access to education?
I believe it is the responsibility of state government official, parents, board of education leaders, and schools. Parents should educate themselves on candidate that will strengthen the education system for their child. Parents should call and write these officials to hold them accountable for the type of education their child is receiving. I believe it is the board of education responsibility because they hire the staff that enforce policies and educate the students.
It is the state job to ensue equal access to education. However equal access to education would improve if there were laws set by the federal government and the federal government disbursed the money. The federal government has the ability to continue to operate federal funding programs even if there is a
