Ephesians 6 Ephesians 6 verses 10-20 has heavily to do with the spiritual warfare of the believer, as well as the roles of Christ and scripture in that conflict. When Paul wrote the epistles to the churches, he kept the audiences he was writing to in mind. Ephesus had a strong military presence, and many of the Ephesians were Roman veterans. Because of this, we see in Ephesians 6:10 many comparisons of Christlike attributes with Roman arms and armour. Ephesians 6:10 begins with the exhortation to “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” The beginning of spiritual self-defense as a Christian is to lean on God’s strength. As it is written in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This is faith’s very foundation; if one is not ready to put himself aside and cave to the power of God’s will for his life, he cannot hope to last in the battle of faith.
