In the 1900s there were several problems that existed in American Society. These four main problems in our country held us back from progressing and were the biggest issues at the time. The four main problems were workers protection, urban living conditions, clean responsive government, and struggle for equal rights. Each had its own significant individual problem but some were weighted to be a more important problem to the general population than others. Many people during their job where hurt and as a result of this, the workers protection movement began to take its first step. The hazardous working conditions were exposed by many muckrakers at the time. One iconic leader during this progressive time was President Theodore Roosevelt. He focused on saving lives by making working conditions in factories safer. Although this is an important issue, this is not the issue that negatively impact the population the most because accident in working conditions did not affect most of the population. If this problem were to be identified it would only help a small percent of all people. The environmental pollution was another factor. The city was always littered with trash on the streets and pollution in the air. This was due to a bad trash system and excess trash can easily cause my infections and sickness to people in the area. With the city not being clean, this was a health risk. Although this can be seen as a big problem, not to many people were hurt by it. The trash in the city was cleaned by progressive movements and a focus on a clean city. This was not the biggest
