A goal I have acquired in my life is pursuing a career in the medical field, particularly becoming an Emergency room registered nurse. As a young child, I always have had the interest of not only human anatomy and the disorders of the human body but caring for people in desperate need. I loved the gratitude from helping people and I desire to be able to make a good difference in people’s life and help them on in life. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Some nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician while others run their own practices.

The idea of taking care of someone and providing assistance to a complete stranger is something not many people do. Seeing people at their worst, during a difficult, challenging and frightening moment of their life is not a job many people would take. However, being there for a person at their time of need is what captivates me the most. Nursing, a career I want to pursue and one that is on my to-do list. Being a nurse entails a lot of things; you must be strong, passionate, hardworking, and caring. Becoming a nurse is my ultimate career goal. In the long term a clear-cut decision would be to further continue my education and become an Nurse Anesthetist with a Master's degree.
After graduating from nursing school with my associate degree, I began working as an emergency room nurse in a level one trauma center in East Texas. It has been 19 years now and I continue to work in emergency care. I now work in a smaller, yet still very busy emergency room. In the past, I have worked in many capacities, and now I am a staff nurse and work a peak hours shift, therefore I am busy the entire 12 hour shift, which I thoroughly enjoy. I precept new employees and students, and I am an instructor for TNCC. I care for patients that are critically ill or injured and also for those who only have minor complaints, and everything in between. I find satisfaction in caring for all levels of patients. Each patient no matter if their complaint is minor or life threatening they have come to me for help and I try and deliver the care they need. Emergency nursing is challenging in that there is always something new to learn and when you think you have seen it all, you will see something new. My relationships with my patients are brief, but I try and deliver the care that the patient needs as efficiently as possible. I feel it is important to interact with them, identify goals and react with care that will help them work towards the goals. If the patient is unable to identify their health goals due to illness then it is up to me to work with family and the physician to determine their goals.
A Certified nursing assistant is one of the members of the health care team. It is also known as a CNA or Nursing Aide. They refer to the ones they care for as residents or patients. In the medical field, a CNA is the lowest paid, however they are the ones who do all of the work such as physical work. They come in contact with the residents more than anyone else; they are the prime care givers. They are always under the supervision of licensed practical, licensed vocational and registered nurses, known as LPN/LVN or RN. The residents/patients that they deal with need long term care, like nursing homes and caring for them at their home. Since they are long term, staying with a faculty up to several months and even years, many CNA’s create a bond and close relationship with them. The main thing they do for them is produce basic care for them or known to them as activates of daily living or ADL. Great paying CNA jobs are very easy to find, even though it requires little training and a variety of skills.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is the job I have chosen to work towards becoming in the future. This job gives me the chance to help people, which was one of my biggest goals for picking what job that I would obtain after college. While being a pediatric nurse practitioner I will get to take care of children, learn more about science and medicine use the skills that I have learned, and get to have the satisfaction that I helped someone every day. These were all things that I wanted in a job; I have found all of these qualities in being a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Many years ago there was a small boy who was woken by a loud scream. Terrified, he ran from his room to find his mother unconscious on the floor. His little sister was screaming as he pulled his mom onto her back in desperation. In reality, he didn’t know what to do to save her and his helplessness was due to his lack of knowledge. She passed away that night. That boy was me. Our past defines us no matter how we protest; it can either pull you down into failure or lift you up towards success. From then on, I was drawn to medical sciences and used that helplessness to motivate my education.
Being one of twelve children, lending a helping hand to others has always been a passion of mines and has came naturally for me. My affection for humanity has always persuaded me to encourage and inspire others to accomplish their goals. Throughout the years I have discovered great pleasure in working behind the scenes in the medical field as a lab technician to ensure that individuals receive the highest standards of quality care. My mission is to touch the lives of individuals in my community by ensuring that individuals receive accurate medical diagnosis and treatment. I will strive to utilize my medical experience and my compassion to make a difference in the lives of others.
Throughout my schooling I have always made the effort to go beyond the classroom by being involved with service. Moreover, by committing myself to service I learned that I have a passion for improving the way of life for others. With this I tested myself by frequently volunteering at a nursing home where I explored the gifts of health care. At the retirement home, I had the ability to make an impact by providing aid and joy to the residents. By undergoing service at the nursing home I discovered that I truly desire to strive in a health care profession. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of having a job where I can help people. After doing research throughout my twelve years of school I stubbled across the occupation of a registered nurse and I realized that is the ideal career for me. While researching registered nurses, I determined that anyone can try and become a registered nurse, but it requires a tremendous amount of hard work. This future job will require me to have a great education, extraordinary communication, listening, and personal management skills. As a registered nurse the pay is more than ideal, and it would provide me with the lifestyle I would want to live. This occupation would also give me the chance to work anywhere I want, such as close to home or somewhere in a different state.
Manager and leader are often used interchangeable. They both have different distinctive features in the role that they play. Management is a problem oriented process whom coordinates the activities of the group to maintain balance and direction (Zerwekh & Claborn, 196). Leader on the other hand One nursing leader or manager that I could think of that satisfies the role of a nursing manager is a nursing supervisor that currently works at my job. She has been a nurse for over twenty years. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with the bachelors of Science in nursing and worked five years at St. Francis Hospital as a staff nurse on the cardiac floor. She then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she obtained her masters of science in advanced nurse practitioner at Chamberlain College. After ten years of service at the VA hospital as a nurse practitioner, she moved to Connecticut where she works as a nursing supervisor; she also held teaching positions at a few nursing schools, works at a doctor’s office and currently working on her doctoral degree. She is the nursing supervisor at my job for almost ten years. The job responsibilities include providing patient care as well as overseeing all nursing staff in the entire facility. Also, she ensures there are adequate nursing staff during the shift interacts with families and patients and works with other healthcare providers to solve any problems that arise during the shift. In addition to directing and supervising all aspect of patient care, she also collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide the most efficient care. From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because of the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I wanted too. However, that dream came to a halt.
Becoming a nurse is going to help me help more people but now with medical issues. One example is that now one can providing them with patient care of health care. Another example is giving first aid and CPR when needed and in emergencies. Also taking a patient’s vital signs and charting medical records. Another would be giving people oral or intravenous medications and vaccines. Another would be cleaning a wound and putting on dressings and removing.
