Educational Philosophy
In today's society education is a valuable commodity that is sometimes taken for granted. Schools focus their attention on students for the purpose of preparing them for what lies ahead. This, however, is not always an easy task because everyone learns differently and views about education vary. Michael de Montaigne, one of the great philosophers, stated, "that the greatest and most important difficulty known to human learning seems to lie in that area which treats how to bring up children and how to educate them." (Haselhusrt, 2007) Learning is an on-going process that takes time.
The task of teaching children can be daunting even for someone with years of education and experience. (Montell, 2003) Each school year brings forth new challenges. With that in mind teachers have to find ways to apply textbook information to experiences the students have had. When students are able to make the connection between a lesson in the classroom and real life situations, they become better learners and are more comfortable with the learning process.
Teachers should establish standards for quality work including what's acceptable and what is not. They should demand excellence and create a list of expectations for students to follow. It is a known fact that whatever level of expectation is set by teachers is the level students strive for. The higher the level, the harder students have to work to achieve them. Goals should not be unrealistic, however, because if students feel they are unattainable they won't make an effort.
The role of a teacher should be that of instructor, mentor, coach, nurturer and leader. Teachers should be observers and learners. They should continually be striving to learn and develop their own skills in order to bring quality education into the classroom. Teachers should always be looking out for new and challenging ways to grow and improve their teaching skills. This will help them deal with the challenges and changes that take place in education from time to time by applying their new knowledge to their teaching style.
Teachers should not be judges of students based on identity or background, but should be accepting of each student's individuality. Every student comes to the classroom with a variety of experiences and opinions. These experiences can lead to new insights into cultural perspectives. (Kauchak, 2007) A teacher should be willing to work with and give every student the opportunity to prove they can do the work and meet the standards.
Also, an overall respect for the unique cultural and language differences can change a reluctant student into one that feels he/she belongs. And most important of all teachers need to have the highest of expectations for all students and promote grit and talent development rather than have low expectations that make a students feel they are inferior. And finally teachers need to avoid the stereotype threat. And in order to, “prevent or remedy stereotype threat, teachers must be careful never to express the belief that certain skills are easier or harder for certain people, and should give all students opportunities to shine and show leadership in all types of tasks (
Teachers should try to make the class as interesting as possible. If the students are interested in learning they will try harder and learn better. Teachers should be a positive influence on their student’s lives. They should not only teach them the basic subjects, but also try to make them become better people by being involved with them. Some parents don’t care how their children act and don’t try to help them overcome problems such as shyness; therefore it is left up to the teacher to help these students. This is where the teacher should become a friend and role model for the students.
A typical definition for teacher is one who passes on knowledge, but the job of teacher entails so much more than simply imparting knowledge to students. Or, rather, the job is not so simple. In order to pass on the information and understanding necessary for a student to become proficient enough to become a contributing member of society, there are many things at which a teacher must be competent. The Ohio Department of Education has created a list of standards for teachers as a guideline to achieve or improve in the competencies they need in order to be considered highly qualified at their profession.
Webster defines philosophy as a critical study of fundamental beliefs and the grounds for them. In this philosophy, I will be talking about the three great philosophers: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. These three philosophers represent the birthplace of Western philosophy.
As a school counselor, my mission is to help students learn about themselves and develop in three areas; personal/social, education, and career. I believe that every student has a gift that was given by God and my goal is to help students identify those gifts and purse those gifts to become successful students and citizens.
I believe teachers should serve as role models and be the center of a classroom. In order to maintain that students stay on task and are all on the same page, the teacher needs to serve as a guide and direct the students. I do not believe that students learn best in a textbook based setting, but that textbooks are important when referencing material. I believe all students learn differently and look for new ideas or ways to teach lessons and concepts, so that my students can learn as effectively as possible. I also believe that a teacher teaches much more than the subject. It is very important for students in my classroom to something other than the subject that I teach. I want them to learn life skills that will help them in more areas and aspects of their life other than education. I believe my students should strive for hard work, dedication, and integrity, and go beyond learning just the content of a
An effective teacher will excite, inspire and motivate students to be active in their learning, investigate new areas of knowledge and make connections to future learning (Whitton et al 2010). When a teacher is successful, their students are motivated, mutually respectful and ready to build on their knowledge and solve real-world problems. To be a teacher of value, one must have many skills and qualities to cater for a diversity of learners and their individual development; this includes many personal traits that are noticed students.
roles of teacher and student, the student is now capable of being responsible for everything they learn (Davidson 50). With this original tactic, education can become successful with implanting knowledge into young minds the correct way.
What is the role of the teacher, and what steps will you take to ensure that you are fulfilling this role?
My beliefs and values about early childhood education is based upon understanding that all children are unique individuals who need a caring, nurturing, and secure environment in which to grow and develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Children under the age of three are in critical stages of development, it is my belief that a quality child care environment will have a positive impact on a child’s development and make a significant difference in the life of a child and his or her family. My philosophy of early childhood education and the elements I believe are necessary in developing a developmentally appropriate child care environment is rooted in my views and beliefs about experimentalism, progressivism, multiculturalism, and the influence of philosophers such as Dewey, Piaget, Montessori, and Vygotsky. Furthermore, I believe young children will thrive and grow in developmentally appropriate child care programs that possess the following elements: (1) teachers who see themselves as intentional, responsive and respectful facilitators of learning, (2) the ability to build a community of learners, (3) implement an effective curriculum that allow children to explore their natural curiosity about the world.
Learning initially begins with one's attitude toward themselves, others, and the world we live in. It is our attitudes that play a major role in shaping our experiences, which in turn affects the way in which we learn. We must first be able to interpret the world using information we already know, in order to understand something entirely new. As a teacher, I could only hope that I can provide children with a positive educational experience, one that will broaden the scope in which they view themselves, others, and the world on a larger scale. Children already acquire a desire to learn, however, it is up to us to sti...
The role and responsibilities of a teacher is very complex. Teachers are responsible for making sure their learners acquire the knowledge they need, but also achieve their qualification by the end of the course in a safe learning environment, so they have the skills and experience they need to start their careers. To achieve that goal a teacher must be creative, professional, flexible and knowledgeable enough to deal with daily challenges and find different ways to help their learners needs. Establishing a safe and stimulating environment for learners, creating mutual respect and set goals that stretch and challenge learners of all backgrounds and abilities.

Good teachers set high expectations and motivate the students to meet those expectations. As students strive for excellence, teachers assist students in meeting their highest potential through daily lessons. Teachers also serve as role models. Teachers make a contribution to society by preparing students for their real world endeavors. They teach students through example to be kind, respectful, humble, patient and determined.”
Being a teacher is one of the most important jobs in the world. In today’s society, it is hard to be a teacher. Students need to have a teacher that has values and understands the importance of these values. A teacher is there to help
