Rattlesnake Point Hike From Thursday, September 17 to the 18th, I travelled to the Rattlesnake Point Hike in Oakville. Throughout that trip we hiked, built our tent, ate, and slept, but we wouldn't be able to do anything if we didn't train on Tuesday. On Tuesday, September the 15th, we did exercises to be prepared to go to the intimidating 21 km Rattlesnake Point Hike. Before the hike of Rattlesnake Point, I did a total of 7 exercises on Tuesday. The first exercise I did was map and geology of hike. During this exercise, I learned about the route of our hike and watched the route of the platoons last year. The steps were, you had to make a fist with one hand and push on it with the other hand while putting one foot between the person's legs. If the person is still choking after that, then we were to make the person bend over and hit the centre of their back. If they were still choking, then you would lie them down on their back with one leg and one arm bended to comfort the person. If this still didn't help, then you would repeat the whole sequence again. Furthermore, we made slings of one of our arms with one triangle cloths. We put one of our hands to our heart, to keep evaluation. The second one we did for the slings section was what to do in case a stick went through your arm. In case that happen, you were to put two rulers one on each side of the arm and make a donut hole with the sling cloth and then wrap the other sling cloth diagonally around the stick. The most important thing is to keep your hands up high for elevation! During this station, I felt safer, now that I know all the people know what to do in case I start choking. Next exercise we did was how to set up a tent. The first thing you had to do was to lie the actual tent, then support it with a stick, put a fly over it
Bill Bryson uses his experience on the Appalachian Trail to show how different your expectations can be compared to the reality of the situation. Bryson believed that he was fully prepared for the hike and that it would be exciting but, in all actuality it was very difficult. He also believed that the hike would be stimulating for the mind but, at times it didn’t require a lot of thinking or attention. His experience and the background research he provided created an image for his audience so they could understand the point he was trying to make. These elements served as evidence in the book and was very effective because it was abundant and meaningful.

The location below the earth’s surface where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter, or focus.

If no pulse is present, give five chest compressions. To achieve effective compressions, the child should be supine on a hard, flat surface. Use one hand to maintain the position of the head. With the other hand, use two fingers to trace the lower margin of the rib cage. Find where the ribs and sternum meet, avoid doing compressions in that notch. Place the heel of your hand over the lower half in the sternum, between the nipple line and the notch. Compress the chest approximately one to one and a half inches. Follow the compressions with one slow breath.
From August 27th to September 5th a group of university students mainly ranging between the ages of 22 to 25 will be experiencing the park first-hand. As far as the weather, this is an ideal time to experience Algonquin Park because "there are only a few lingering misquotes, the days are warm and the nights are cool" (Friends…, 1998). Within the group of approximately 60 people, the diversity of the individual's outdoor recreation experience is varied. Some have camped, canoed and portaged a great deal while some will be experiencing "the great outdoors" for the first time. Although there will be both rookies and veterans the physical fitness level of all is fairly descent. Therefore, it was only up to the individual to do some informal physical training before the trip if they feel training was needed. However, formal training took place at Northern Edge Algonquin before the group headed into Algonquins interior. Activities such as paddling, orienteering, and first aid were addressed for the first two days of the trip.
There were a great many sights to see and memories to be made as we traversed across the beautiful landscape. The trek consisted of two ten mile segments so the younger scouts could just do one part if they became exhausted, but the older scouts were encouraged to tackle the entire journey.
