I believe to teach is to make a difference in the world. As an Early Childhood Educator, I can be certain that anything taught and beneficial to young students can pave the way for them to a have colorful future that will help improve the future of humanity and the earth in the long run. Obviously, teachers play a huge role in their students’ education but I believe the students themselves play an even bigger role as they are the driving force of what they learn. While walking through the front gates of County elementary school, you see children of all ages playing while they wait for the school bell to ring. Walking to the classroom that I will be observing you see students with their parent’s line up waiting to get signed in. The students are to be signed in by a parent or guardian for safety precautions, and shows that the child was signed into school. As a visitor, I am to sign myself in, this shows I was in the classroom, at what time was I there, and reason for visiting the classroom.
I could start this off by saying I knew I always wanted to be a teacher, but that would be cliché and not a part of my story. Throughout elementary school I had no idea what I wanted to be, if you asked me then I would have said a princess today maybe a rock star tomorrow. I always enjoyed school and it never came across as the place where teachers were out to get you and the bigger kids bully you until you give them your lunch money. As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
Teaching is a very complex profession. Many facets of education need to be taken in order to be successful as a teacher. Teaching is not solely about imparting the skills and knowledge. It is about love and relationships that not only allows learning to happen but encourages children 's development holistically and empowers them to work towards their dreams and becoming who they want to be.
I believe that teaching is one of the most important careers that one can have, granted that there are many more jobs that come to mind that have more importance, but they all started with education. Without education society is left with nothing. Although, teaching isn’t just about giving the students the information, it is about building critical thinking, communication, showing their creative side and having them to embrace the information in order to achieve higher standards. It is my desire as an educator to provide my students with the learning environment necessary to motivate and inspire each and every one of them to become to their fullest potential. To me a teacher is someone who loves children and loves helping others achieve their goals. I think the main focus on a teacher’s mind should be to encourage others to make the world a better place to live. In order to make the world a better place, someone has to inspire others to make a change. I feel that teachers should become the inspiration of today’s children and tomorrow’s future. I believe teachers need that desire inside of them, to want to make a difference in someone else’s life, in order to make the world a better place.
Entering my kindergarten teaching experience in the last quarter of school year I had to quickly become familiar with kindergarten content standards and the school’s curriculum. To do this I observed my mentor teachers instructional time with the children and gained as much information as I could about the children’s educational standing by developing a professional relationship with the my mentor teacher and the children. I learned that the majority of my kindergarten children had not previously attended preschool and that this was their first year of school. I found that interacting with the children in social activities provided me with great insight to their literacy, math, science, and social studies development. In reviewing the children’s class projects, school displays, and an array of their work sample along with my mentor teachers year-long assessments I was able to recognize challenging, emerging and advanced content areas of the children’s core curriculum. These emerging and challenging content areas is what I centered my curriculum planning around. “Information about each child’s learning and development is used to evaluate teaching effectiveness. This may lead to changes in schedule, curriculum and teaching strategies, room set up, resources, and so on.” (Bredekamp and Copple, p. 249)
I believe that teaching is the most important job known to humanity. In fact, I do not believe it is a job, but rather, a debt payment to society. Education is important because it not only opens doors to a better life, but it also insures one a happier life. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It makes us capable of interpreting rightly the things perceived. Without education, we as a whole, would be further behind in the world and would not have as much technology as we do now. Education also equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams come true. It is because of education that we have the comfortable living style that we have today. For those who are troubled, education acts as an outlet to success. It is education that builds in every individual a confidence to make decisions, to face life, and to accept successes and failures. It instills a sense of pride about the knowledge one has and prepares him/her for life.
