I will be looking at two different assessment tools one is a traditional assessment tool to an authentic electronic portfolio assessment. I will look at the age of 4-5 years old (preschool age) assessments. I work at Little Giants Learning Academy in Florida were the teachers use three assessment tools one from the center and two made from state. I will look at the one from the center and one from the state which is Teaching Strategies GOLD. Teachers can use technology to enhance assessments, less space of assessments of the child's performance and abilities. There are 38 research based objectives in Teaching Strategies GOLD which truly helps teachers focus on what matters most for school readiness. The objectives cover 10 areas of development and learning. It has Electronic portfolios that offer a great amount of storage, allowing teachers to upload, organize, and securely store photos, videos, and samples of children’s work. Parents as well can logon in see their child progress. Gold is an ongoing assessment and is observed well the child is playing not one on one like the traditional one. Some teachers are scare or uncomfortable with change and some love it. Our past experiences with innovative technologies would suggest one technology cannot be so easily swapped for another. The introduction of a new tool into human activity often changes that activity in ways unanticipated and sometimes profound. It has been the same for years doing the traditional paper assessment on children and teacher and most people get used to it and don’t want change. Some teachers are not formal with technology to use some of the new assessments which are all online like is Teaching Strategies GOLD where we use tablets and take photos and videos. Then there are teachers like me who love the excitement and see the benefit that this new technology can bring to the classroom like saving time and having different forms to look at for evidence that the child is meeting that skill of development, and also free up some classroom
