According to MoMa Learning, the rise of the modern city in the early 1900s was shaped by industry, innovations in transportation (railroads in particular), and mass migrations of population. The turn of the 20th century was a time of modern invention, intense art production, and relative peace that the French termed La Belle Époque, or “the beautiful era”. Some prominent culture also emerged in such age, in which celebrity culture stood out. In this final paper, my goal is to examine how celebrity culture that was originated from the early 1900s still has a significant impact in today’s world. In other words, celebrate culture is closely tied to consumer interests, in which celebrities transform their fame to become profitable brands and products. In the last few decades, there have been been multiple phases in the popularity of celebrity culture. According to Marshall, the earliest instances would include the broadcasting of television programs where wider audiences could be easily reached and individuals could be given rise to fame.
