What would you do in order to survive? I quickly learned what EOD members needed to survive as the worked under dangerous conditions. Yes, I worked alongside the Army’s elite bomb squad, EOD.His shirt was silly but I quickly after learning about the EOD I learned what the t-shirt was truly about. EOD’s language community is about the need to survive After serving a 12 month tour in Korea, I was anxious to embark on a new adventure back in the U.S.I checked my email for orders nearly everyday waiting. One Thursday morning, I got the word I was headed back to my hometown of Fort Knox, Kentucky to work with the EOD.Wait, what? The EOD? From being in the Army, I had known that IED, improvised explosives devices, were responsible for most the of deaths and causalities in Global War on Terror. I was afraid to work with them. I had to work with these people. These people are maniacs. I had only known about EOD from the film the “Hurt locker” The film depicted the technicians as hard asses, know it alls, and disregarded advice from others. As soon as we got the orders, leaders from each platoon had filed in the classroom to hash out who was staying in the rear and who was strong enough to serve in the warzone. All soldiers want to deploy, especially one that joined during the time of war. The anticipation around the shop grew as we waited for the verdict. The leaders emerged from the doors mostly pleased to call a meeting. Our leaders said we came with a decision and that it would be discussed at the platoon level.
