Pattern of Questioning: The pattern of question in “Dying Well” is Solution focused using the Miracle Question. Solution Focused question focuses on the clients’ strengths and validates those strengths. In this type of questioning the client discusses what brought them to therapy and what they are expecting to get out of the session. The therapist asks questions such as what is being done daily or what is happening when the problem arises. Another question that is asked is how will the solution fix the problem or the issue that the client is having now (Masterworks Productions, 1998). The person center approach would help the client understand that dying peacefully is only about what is best for her and not what is best for others in her life. The client is very determined to die peacefully and she is already on the right track. I would help the client understand that the meaning and purpose of her dying in peace is personal to what she believes would provide her comfort during this time and not so much on making others happy. Working Client Goal Phase:
1. Increase clients’ security when dealing with others in her environment. a. Understand that it is okay to have your own feelings and thoughts, so that others do not make you feel bad about how you are. b. Remind others of the positive changes you are making in your life to ignore negative feedback that is not constructive. c. Think about positive interaction with your family, so you can reduce the negative emotions.
2. Increase sense of self, so Tonya can feel live a valued member of society. a. Tonya continues to live in her own hotel room and will not let her pimp abuse her. b. Tonya continues to not take drugs and focus on the positive changes she made
