There are few too many ways why drink driving is terrible because innocent people are dying every day because of this problem, more action should be informed. From the year of 2017 beginning of January 1st to October 1st, there have been 25,350 deaths. The lowest prison time someone has gotten for killing from drunk driving that I've seen was seven years. Would anyone want someone that killed their family member to have only several years in prison? What I think was if someone made that choice to kill someone because of their distractions or whatever else it may be, I feel like that person should get prison for life because they took their life away. Alcohol is causing too many deaths. Each year, excessive drinking is responsible for the deaths of 80,000 people in the United States, 4,700 of which are young Americans (6). Alcohol by itself is dangerous; this danger is (made greater) when individuals consuming it are allowed to drive a vehicle. Research has shown that a pedestrian struck by a vehicle moving at 40 miles an hour has a fifty percent chance of getting killed as a result of the impact (9). A distracted or impaired driver will not be able to react as fast as a non-impaired driver, meaning a drunk driver is a more dangerous driver than a sober one.

Justice should be served, but I don’t understand how killing someone who killed someone else brings justice. I feel that execution is the easy way out. A better form of punishment is keeping a criminal in prison, where they will have to live the rest of their lives knowing they committed a crime. Living with guilt is a far better punishment. Not to mention those who, as I stated before, are convicted innocently or those who are sentenced to death wrongfully.

Drunk driving is a problem that we hear about every day and it is something that effects everyone, but it only becomes real when it affects us directly. The worst art of it all is that this problem is preventable though it is the leading causes of loss of lives in our roads and destruction of properties. When a person inquires about death, they never expect that it will arrive early to meet them.
