Driving while intoxicated has became a national epidemic that people do not take as seriously as they should. Driving while intoxicated is very dangerous. On average, a person is injured every two minutes because of a person intoxicated and driving causing a wreck. It begins with “I’ve only had a couple of drinks. I’ll be okay, just going down the street to my house.” And often turns into “It was an accident. I didn’t even see them, I’m sorry.” Drinking and driving should be taken more seriously. What if you were the unlucky person? As a drunk driver you should think about the lives you could destroy, including your own, over safety. Drinking has affected my life in many ways, so I can only imagine how it effects others.
Drunk driving not only costs you, it cost the United States an average of $32 billion dollars a year. When you get pulled over and are under the influence not only can you be taken to jail, you suffer the possible consequences of revoking your driver license. Drunk driving also cost those in the United States who don’t risk the safety of themselves or others. United States citizens pay nearly $500 dollars a year because of driving under the influence. Eighty times is a lot of times to risk the safety of yourself and other. As a result of drunk driving twenty-seven people die in crashes daily because of poor choices by people like me. The rate of drunk drivers was the highest among adults in their mid-twenties. To be more exact 20.7 percent of drunk drivers are in their twenties. Drunken driving crashes are usually four times more likely to occur at night then during the day, and also more common during the weekend than during the week.
