Robots and complex mechanical structures have been around since the Greek mathematician Archytas invented and created a small mechanical bird powered by steam (Should the human). Homer theorized these machines before they were even created in his book, “the Iliad”. He describes them as golden servants who were created by the god Hephaestus. Homer is also the man who coined the term robot (Patrick 4). Leonardo da Vinci also created blueprints for a mechanical knight that could be considered a robot by today’s terms (Patrick 3). Robots have come a long way since the time when mechanical knights were seen as useful. They are now used for drones, assistants, child care, and weapons. Drones are unmanned vehicles that are remotely or autonomously piloted. Drones are also known as quadcopters. Recreationally, drones are used to make short films or to race. Many drones come equipped with a camera or recording device attached to the bottom of the chassis and send back live footage to a phone or controller. The footage can then later be manipulated for …show more content…

Robotics arms are still used on factory floors, but are now combined with a number of other robots making some factories almost completely autonomous. These arms have also been equipped with a number of more advanced ultrasonic sensors and light sensors. Amazon tried to use robotics to assist their business in 2013 as well. Amazon talked about building drones to deliver packages to their customers. “Amazon has built advanced drones, but it can't use them because American regulators have made it a criminal offense for businesses to use drones.” (Crovitz) These drones would leave from nearby Amazon factories and deploy with the customer’s package housed underneath the octocopter and then release the package on the front porch of the customer’s
