First alcohol, then tobacco, now fast food. Is fast food the new tobacco? In the article “Don’t blame the eater”, by David Zinezenko, he explains the bad affects that fast food companies have, when their meals are consumed on a day by day basis. He blames fast food companies for causing obesity in young teens around the world. Fast food restaurants have become the only options for youths today whose parents are often at work during the day, so they become victims to the trap of delicious, cheap, and convenient meals that the fast food restaurants offer. He also talks about the massive amount of fast food chains located only in a community. I agree, the problem is that we as the consumers do not know the dangers of eating fast foods on a daily …show more content…

He also mentions how fast food chains tend to avoid providing health information on their foods because it is not required by the Food and Drug Administration. Even if they do provide the health information, it is either hard to understand or it doesn’t take into account the unhealthy sides, condiments, and drinks that are served with them. Since fast food industries don’t provide the information on the unhealthy foods that their consumers eat, David Zinczenko feels that they are to blame for increased rates of obesity and diabetes, not the consumers. I could not agree more with this argument, as a person who has transitioned from consuming a lot of fast food to eating more home cooked meals, it has been a hard change, there is fast food on every corner and a Whole Foods about every ten miles making it harder to resist the cheap, delicious, quick meals. Without the help of the Food Drug Administration providing the health information, the health risk will continue to increase as time goes
