Fast food chains such as Mcdonalds, Burger King, and Wendy’s are selling many products that are nearly inedible due to the unhealthiness and even the presentation. The link between fast food consumption and obesity is causal. Obesity, especially during childhood, has both individual and environmental causes. It easily makes people feel bad about themselves, leading to unhappiness. As for the presentation, these fast food chains use 99% faux “food” in any advertisement.

The health risks of eating unhealthy have skyrocketed since fast-food became more popular and cheaper than cooking at home. Especially with children, one trip to the closest fast-food place could take up all of the calories that are needed for a child in one day. Getting a child a kid’s meal with a cheeseburger and fries can be over 800 calories (Sheenan). A study shows that within three to five hours of eating a high-fat meal the blood vessels function abnormally. This is more common is children, but could harm adults also (Morris).
By eating fast food, efficiency is lost due to its unhealthy nature, not only for the copious amounts of fats and salts it contains, but also because it lacks of vital nutrients. The people in America have fallen head over heals for fast food, because they have conceived the notion that eating fast food is more efficient. In a society that is advancing technologically, providing instant information and communication, people look to maximize efficiency. That, however, is not the only reason that America is obsessed with fast food; people also love the taste of food that the major franchises produce, and have been indoctrinated at a young age to do so. By falling pray to the relative ease of access, “great taste,” and intense advertising campaigns of fast food companies, Americans have become dependent on fast food not only to sustain themselves, but also their culture.
Childhood Obesity is of the most concerning diseases among children today; fast food is one of the main causes because people are uneducated about it. One out of three kids in the U.S. is overweight (Overweight in Children, 6). Fast food has been proven to be a huge factor in this childhood disease.
