In the previous years, terrorist attacks in Baghdad have been frequent. The attack that took over 200 lives was devastating attack to the people of that city; the people are currently in fear after this tragic event. This event was a very tragic event; this attack took place in the city capital on days before the end of Ramadan. ISIL, the state sponsored group responsible for the attack have safe havens located in Iraq, and Syria. This event outlines the tragedy that such state sponsored terrorism groups are able to perform; this event takes place just as the military operations calmed the streets of Fallujah. Exactly What Type of Terrorism Are They?
They would be considered state sponsored terrorist, and also religious terrorist based on what they believe. States sponsor terrorist groups and religious terrorism is particularly dangerous due to the fanaticism of those who practice it and their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the cause.
International or Domestic Terrorism?
The bombing that occurred in Baghdad would be considered a domestic terrorism attack. The reason for that would be because the act was done by a local terrorist group ISIS. They would be considered domestic since, they committed the act intending to cause serious harm upon other Muslims and death. ISIS committed the act of terrorism in their owe jurisdiction. the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; appear to be intended (Cornell,1992).

When we think of terrorist, we might think of radical Islamic individuals or groups who would take pride in killing anyone who is not Muslim. Even more, there are antagonistically people who want nothing more but to destroy the lives of innocence people because of their belief system. Take an individual like Theodore Kaczynski for instance; he was a former University of California at Berkeley math professor. Otherwise known as the “Unabomber,” he was indeed a terrorist because he used explosives that killed three people and wounded eighteen others in a span of almost two decades. Even more, his brother David Kaczynski was responsible for his capture.
Outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, Timothy McVeigh parked a rental truck loaded with a diesel-fuel-fertilizer bomb then immediately fled leaving the bomb to explode minutes later. While Timothy McVeigh was trying to flee not even an hour in, he was stopped for a traffic violation.
Categorical terrorism, according to Jeff Goodwin, is defined as “the strategic use of violence and threats of violence, usually intended to influence several audiences, by oppositional political groups against civilian or noncombatants who belong to a specific entity, religious or national group, social class or some other collectivity, without regard to their individual identities or roles.” More so, in terms of definition, according to a study done by Jeffrey Record in 2003, there was a count of over 109 definitions of terrorism, covering 22 different categorical elements. During the 70s and 80s, the United Nations struggled to define the term, finally coming up with the following definition: “Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them.”

The continuing successful and attempted terrorist attacks in the USA and the endless wars and conflicts in which we are involved are a manifestation of political, economical and imperialistic failures in Arab lands. This was supported by Western society with the United States as the largest of powers. Instability, oppression, poverty and political alienation that the citizens of many Islamic-Arab nations experienced within the last hundred years have led to major hatred of the United States by the people of many Arab nations. These sources of hatred can be viewed as remote causes of the endless terror attacks and conflicts around the globe. Through the analysis of these causes, it is possible to find ways to avoid such incidents of terror by solving the problem at the source.

Terrorism is used around the world to create fear and influence the public on political views (Siegel, 489). There are four views of terrorism including the psychological view, socialization view, ideological view, and the alienation view. A religious terrorist would most likely fit under the ideological view. In this view the terrorist feels the need to change a wrong opinion and believes that, because they are sacrificing themselves for something they believe so strongly in, it justifies the damage and harm done to innocent people (Siegel, 490). They use terror to create fear in anyone who opposes them and attract followers to their religion. In short, terrorism is widely used for political reasons but religion has been linked to the violence as well.
After the Charleston church shooting, the suspect Dylann Storm Roof, fled the scene upon being identified he was arrested without incident, during a traffic stop, by police the following day. The police reaction to the shooting followed very standard procedures for manhunt, the suspect’s picture was circulated through local News and other media and an all points bulletin was issued in attempt to find Dylann Roof.
