In summary, on 03/11/16 at 1516 hours I was assigned to a Domestic Incident at the Cicero Police Station. While at the Station, I had the opportunity to speak with Magadan, Noemi DOB 06/03/90 in regards to her two nieces Morales, Kitzia DOB 11/08/04 and Rosas, Perla DOB 09/30/13 left home alone unsupervised. Noemi further related at approximately 1450 hours she was at 1310 S Cicero Ave. visiting her sister's store. She further related her she observed Kitzia walking with Perla down the block. Noemi approached them and asked where their mother (Magadan, Lucia M. DOB 06/09/85) was and why are they alone? Noemi related that Kitzia advised her that her mother was at work and they were home alone. At this time Noemi told Kitzia and Perla to come
DSS received a report of physical abuse, physical neglect and substantial risk of physical abuse on March 3, 2017 alleging there is chaos in the home. After returning with his brothers from their cousin’s house, the boys had to go to bed. The reporter stated that Xzavia banged on his mother’s bedroom door on three separate occasions wanting something to eat. The first time he was told to go back to bed and a popping noise was heard. The second time Ms. Kimberly Dawkins grabbed Xzavia by the head, shook him little and told him to go back to bed. The third time Ms. Dawkins grabbed Xzavia, threw him on the bed, got a gun, held him down and pointed it at him. Reporter states there was no clip in the gun. Ms. Dawkins was reported being upset and it was reported that she left the home for twenty minutes but came back. It was reported that while Ms. Dawkins was gone, Xzavia was very upset and he was crying and Tyzhaun stared punching holes in the wall. It was reported that Xzavia says he wanted to die and that Atmorris went and got a knife, stated to Xzavia, “You want to die?”, here’s the knife and the two older brothers, Tyzhaun and Atmorris left the house and Xzavia chased them. It was reported that Xzavia was outside crying and he spent the night with the neighbor.

On a townhouse at 3965 Deer Ridge drive, Silver Spring, MD 20904 on Thursday, 09/27/2017 around 12:30 pm I was going to the basement to wash clothes. I turned on the lights and saw a flood entering inside the basement with a high speed through a little window which was located on the left corner of the basement. I start to cover it; if I attempted to reach it, the flood will pour on my head because the window was a little higher above me. Due to the incident, so many household items were damaged, especially brand new 2 mattresses, blankets, carpets, chars, paper documents, books, and some electronic items including kid’s clothes and shoes.
Domestic Violence Statistics states, “Around the world, at least one in every 3 women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime” (1). The United States Department of Justice defines domestic violence as, “a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner” (para. 1). Domestic violence is a crime that numerous citizens fall victim to in every country. Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence regardless of race, gender, sexuality or religion. Being a victim of domestic violence can affect a person’s way of life permanently and the way these victims interact with other people can become a difficult task and can eventually affect their future. Domestic violence is substantially wrong because it can cause drastic permanent effects in a person’s life, can cause physical, emotional and intellectual damage, and affects a child’s state of mind of what is normal and what is not if they are in a domestic violent atmosphere. While women are usually victims of domestic violence, men are victims of this crime as well. The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney states that, “According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics Crime Data Brief, men account for approximately fifteen percent of the victims of reported intimate partner crimes” (Clark County Prosecuting Attorney, par.1). Physical, emotional, economic and physiological abuses are all forms of domestic violence that many people would consider to fall under another crime. There are many crimes that many citizens commit, but domestic violence is one of many that should not be taken lightly.
On Saturday, September 9th, 2017, at 2034 hours, I was dispatched to 3217 Grouper Rd in reference to a domestic violence incident that had just occurred.
Unfortunately wrongful arrests happen way too often, as Setliff and I discussed. For example, a person may report having probable cause to claim domestic violence and request an arrest. Law enforcement must be vigilant to make sure they are handling domestic violence cases rightfully. Additionally, if an arrest is made, prosecutors should use the same care and caution in order to accurately charge offenders, and prosecute those offenders who truly do pose threat to victims.
Although conflicts subsist inevitable, the degree to which individuals react to the conflict stands well-regulated. While some individuals react with negotiations and agreements, others rely on the power of violence and degradation. Domestic violence is a complex issue that plagues society regularly. Judicial systems all over the United States have attempted to create regulations to protect victims of domestic abuse. Furthermore, scattered scarcely throughout the United States are non-profit and small organizations which attempt to supplement the judicial protection with additional resources. Nevertheless, domestic abuse seems to be much bigger than any services these systems can maintain. Victims of domestic violence suffer with harmful issues even judicial and non-profit systems have yet to overcome and as society advances, even more issue seem to arise.
Domestic violence affects a large amount of relationships in the United States each year. As the times have changed, abuse has become less accepted as a normal occurrence, and society has begun working together to provide awareness towards violence in intimate partner relationships. “Problems of family violence are potentially the most destructive in our society” (Kurland 23). Domestic violence is a problem that begins in the home, and spreads to affect the world around it. Violence is present in relationships of all demographics, be it race, sexual orientation, or social class. No one is entirely safe from experiencing abuse, but if society is taught to recognize the signs it can save a life or even prevent abuse from happening.
There are many different types of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the most obvious form, but this is not to say that outsiders always recognize it. Generally, physical violence causes bodily harm, using a variety of methods. Slapping, pushing, throwing, hitting, punching, and strangling are only a few methods. An object or weapon may or may not be used. There is not always physical evidence of physical abuse such as bruising, bleeding, scratches, bumps, etc., therefore, absence of physical marks does not necessarily mean physical abuse had not occurred. Physical abuse sometimes escalates to murder (Morris and Biehl 7, Haley 14-17).
Domestic violence has no specific time of beginning. The crimes of domestic violence go way back into our history. My research has led me to believe that the start of the crimes originated from Europe and had gotten brought to the Americas when settlers had came. The Europeans were permitted to beat their women as a form of correctional behavior, this was in the 1500’s to the 1800’s. The weapons they used were their hands or a switch no bigger than the husbands thumb. Later, in the 1800’s there were court laws that permitted husbands to administer “moderate chastisement in case of emergencies”. This led to foundations coming together to prevent cruelty to women.
