The very first thing that caught my eye upon reading the introduction of the doctrine and covenants was a line that talked about how the Doctrine and Covenants isn’t only for members of the church but for everyone in the world to hearken unto the counsel from the lord in the doctrine and covenants.(para.1) As I read I understood deeper the importance of getting the message of the gospel to everyone, because although everyone doesn’t share our beliefs the message from the Lord is universal and his revelations impact lives whether people know about it or not. That is “the testimony that is given of Jesus Christ—His divinity, His majesty, His perfection, His love, and His redeeming power” (para.8). I can think of nothing that validates a book more than to bare testimony of the Savior and his role in each of our lives. To know that the Savior came to this earth to show us the example on how to live and to make possible our return to Heavenly Father through the Atonement is vital. In the world that has so much chaos and confusion going on the Savior will be the one that makes peace possible for everyone. Knowing that it is through prophets and apostles that we receive the will of god it makes sense for the lord telling us to hearken unto the words in Doctrine and Covenants so that we can be aware of how the Lord speaks to us. Right after the Lord invites everyone to listen to his servants he states what happens when we don’t follow the prophet and apostles “They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god”(1:16) It is great to know that as we follow after the prophet and those called by the Lord we will be able to walk in the ways of truth and righteousness back to our heavenly
