Covenant has a central place in the Christian religion. It is a relationship between us and God created by a pledge in which part has defined responsibilities. The type of covenant we are in with God is suzerainty. This simply means that God is our master and we are his slaves. Too many there might be a bad connotation in the master-slave analogy. However, I embrace the fact that god is my master and I am His slave. He will never do anything to harm me, knows my needs, will provide for me, and He loves me unconditionally. That is way different compared to the way slaves were treated by their human masters. There are five aspects of covenant. For the purposes of this paper I am going to be referring to primarily the new covenant that is offered us through Jesus. The first aspect is the parties involved. There are two parties: God and the elect. Unlike the old covenant, the elect goes beyond the Jews. It also includes the gentile, or non-Jew in all the nations. This is one aspect of covenant that has helped shape my worldview. I have spoken to people who believe that God only selects a few privileged people to be saved, and condemns the rest to eternal punishment in hell. I now wholeheartedly believe this to be completely false, and even a heresy. In John 3:16 God uses the phrase “panta ta ethne” which means “all the nations.” There are other places in scripture, for example, when Paul says in Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” He clearly says ‘everyone who believes’ not leaving anyone out. There are places in scripture, such as Ephesians 1:11 that talk about things which are predestined for believers. This verse is commonly taken out of context by those who believe in predestination. He has indeed planned out things He wants those in covenant relationship to accomplish for His kingdom once we accept Jesus and make Him Lord of our life. He does not, however, make the choice beforehand to save some, and damn some to hell! God created us in His image, therefore we have also been given the gift of free will to choose to love Him or love the world. This is the depraved condition of mankind in our fallen state.
In today’s society, sacrifices play a big role in our everyday lives. They range from small, such as sacrificing that piece of cake to keep you feeling healthier and a little better about yourself, to big sacrifices such as a firefighter sacrificing his life for a complete stranger. At the end of the day, they all all make a difference for better or for worse. The roots of the Presbyterian Church go all the way back to Protestant Reformation, in the 1500 led by Martin Luther. But, the roots of the Presbyterian Church trace back to John Calvin. Born in Novan, France. He later studied in Paris and was influenced there by protestant ideas. Second in importance to John Calvin for the history of the Presbyterians is John Knox, a Scotsman who lived from 1514 to 1572. He led the reformation in Scotland according to the Calvin’s five points. After studying with Calvin in Geneva, returned to his native Scotland to establish Presbyterianism.
As I walked up the street toward the front of Grace Cathedral, I was in awe at the size and ornateness of this cathedral. It was tall and wide and looked very much like the churches we had been studying in class in the prior weeks. As I got closer and closer I began to make out The Ghiberti Doors, also known as the gates of paradise. These are the main cathedral doors made out of bronze, and are replicas of the originals which stood centuries ago at the east entrance to the Baptistry of Florence Cathedral (the Duomo) Italy. I approached and spent about fifteen minutes, just examining all the different engraved scenes within the ten sections in the two doors. After I had finished looking at the Ghiberti Doors, I entered through one of the side doors, since you are not able to use the Ghiberti Doors, because they weight too much. Before I stepped inside the cathedral, I pulled out my text analysis and read over it, so that when I entered I could examine whether or not this cathedral exuded the same sacredness as the cathedral in the text analysis. I feel this Cathedral really does exude not entirely the purity of heaven, but does seem to somewhat separate you from the outer world, as Abbot Suger spoke of. Also, it brings in some of the surrounding beauty from St. Denis, such as the sapphire and stained glass, as well as the gold plating.

The idea that God decided ahead of time who would be saved and who would burn for all eternity in painful punishment paints God in a negative and somewhat cruel light. I think the biggest quote that bothered me in this reading assignment was “for all are not created in equal condition” (McGrath 2011, pg. 375). I feel this severely undermines that the notion of free will and puts the entirely of creation in question. If we aren’t created equal, why even both creating those who were damned from the beginning. I would rather to have never existed than to spend all of eternity in torment by God’s choice. If we are predestined from before our birth to either be saved or not be saved, why live our lives? We either are or are not chosen and if we are not chosen nothing we ever try will be good

In the Biblical era many civilians had a completely different life than ours, and their life was not as simple as ours. Most people in the biblical century an everyday life consisted of living in rural areas and harsh work in order to provide for the family. Many people believe life, in Ancient Biblical times, was not as tough as some people set it out to be, however many people had to suffer from hard work, diseases, slavery, daunting occupations, and poor quality clothing.
When we take a look back at all of the Crusades that took place in the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries, we see that the Crusades brought many new ideas and inventions to the rest of the world. Most of the contributions that the Crusades have made have been to warfare, arms and armor. The weapon has evolved over time and began with “the rock and the club proceeded through the sling and boomerang, bow and arrow, sword and axe, to gunpowder weapons of the rifle and machine gun of the late nineteenth century” . Throughout the Crusades we saw the introduction to new ideas such as siege towers, fortifications, pitched battles, ranged weapons, polearms, and blunt hand weapons. The question that I will be focusing on throughout my paper will be, how the warfare of the Middle Ages, specifically the Crusades, impact warfare of the modern day? I will be looking at both the Muslims and the Christians and will be covering the time period from 1000-1300.

When we think of the Church as followers of Christ we think of the Church of Christ. The Church which is from the Kingdom of God. That we serve in and are to minister in. It is also the same Church that Jesus told Peter that he will be the rock of His Church which He will build on. “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;…” (New American Standard Bible, Matthew 16.9) Over time the Church has grown and developed many different forms of government. However, the three major forms of church government is Episcopal Government, Congregational Government and Presbyterian Government. Each government of the church has played an important role within the church and in its history.
The term “creed” is derived from the Latin “credo” which means "I believe." In this context, a creed is a systematic summarization of religious theories and beliefs. It would be difficult if not impossible to study the general history of Christianity and specifically Christian Theology without studying these ecumenical creeds: The Apostle’s Creed, The Nicene Creed, The Chalcedonian Creed and The Athenasian Creed. These creeds serve to demarcate the doctrinal substance and boundaries of orthodox Christian theology. These four creeds represent the culmination of several hundred years of early Christian debate centered on what eventually became known as the doctrine of the trinity.

For any Christian, one of the most important questions a person can ever answer is, “How does a Believer know that they are for sure a Christian?” All Believers needs to have the assurance of their salvation. Finding the answer to this question brings confidence and contentment to the Believer’s life. Sadly, many people live their lives never really having an answer to this question. However, the Word of God is the starting point to find this assurance.
