Humans have their benefits and drawbacks, teams have their benefits and drawbacks, armies have their benefits and drawbacks, some overpower others. But how about the fight to establish America? The American Revolutionary War started when Britain was enforcing horrific laws and punishments towards the 13 colonies of America. The colonists had given up their homes and rights for Britain. Many thought this was wrong, tensions were rising, slowly but surely the American Revolutionary War began. The Americans had some problematic disadvantages during the war. Ushistory.org says,” The Americans had tremendous difficulty raising enough funds to purchase basic supplies for their troops including shoes and blankets.” Compared to the wealthy British army, the American army is a penniless peasant. Therefore they have very little or none of the most basic living supplies. Therefore, the Americab soldiers won't be in such good condition to fight the powerful British. Sadly, this could result in a high chance of the British overpowering them, a British victory. However, the Americans had some encouraging advantages. Ushistory.org informs us that Americans had a grand cause: fighting for their rights, their independence, their liberty. This is so much more worth fighting for than the British, just fighting to deny America's claims of independence. The war is worth so much more to the Americans. The American revolution was the starting point in where America really became independent from, being shackled to Great Britain, but this war had its own irony and contradictions. With each war there are always people fighting for something that they believe in, whether they are right or wrong. As long as the people believe in what they are fighting for then they will always believe that they are fighting for the greater good. In this war the Americans believe in what they were fighting for and the reasons for them to be free from their present and future from being controlled by another country hundreds of miles away. This war contradicted the reason as to why they were fighting, at the end of the fight it seemed to go back to the way it was before, but instead of, having a king ruling over them from hundreds of miles away they have different kinds of people taking control of the new America.

In the second half of the eighteenth century, the British were faced with rebelling colonies. Finally realizing that they had to fight to keep their colonial possessions, the British sent troops to America. Once the battles began in America, the British were not impressed with the colonial military, but the weak militias soon proved to be effective. With foreign aid from France, American devotion, and the lack of British vigor, the Americans soon discovered the open doors of independence. In my opinion, the American advantages and the British disadvantages proved to be the downfall of the English in the American Revolution.
During the War for American Independence, 78 men were commissioned as general officers into the Continental Army by the Continental Congress. Many of these generals commanded troops with differing levels of competence and success. George Washington is typically seen as most important general, however throughout the war a number of his subordinates were able to distinguish themselves amongst their peers. One such general was Nathanael Greene. At the end of the Revolutionary War, Greene would become Washington’s most important subordinate, as demonstrated by Edward Lengel’s assessment of Greene as “the youngest and most capable of Washington’s generals.” Washington and Greene developed a strong, positive and close relationship between themselves. Greene began his life in the military after having been raised a Quaker. With limited access to literature and knowledge in his younger years, Greene became an avid reader which equipped him with the knowledge necessary to excel as a general during the war. Through his devoted study of military operations, firsthand experience and natural abilities as a soldier, Greene became an excellent military commander. He would become known for his successful southern campaign, during which, he loosened British control of the South and helped lead the war to its climax at Yorktown. Throughout the war, he was involved in a number high profile battles where he built a reputation of being an elite strategist who also understood unconventional warfare, logistics, and the importance of military-civil affairs and had a natural political/social acumen. The Revolutionary War between America and Britain placed a lot of difficulties on both sides, particularly the American colonies. America was the underdog of the war and no one expected them to win, but yet, despite all of their challenges they won the war. America didn't have a regular army and strong navy, unlike the Britain, who had one of the strongest armies in the world. Comparing America to the British is like comparing the emperor to a peasant. Furthermore, America's weapons and ammunitions were in short supply, and to make matters worse, not all Americans supported the struggle for independence. However, in spite of these things, America managed to win. American colonists got over the challenges thrown at them and won the Revolutionary War.
The American Victory in the Revolutionary War created a positive growth physically and mentally for Americans, society, and government. Without the ideologies of the founding fathers, we would not have the freedom, government, and equality as an American. The courageous men all spoke out in a selfless way for each American fighting for their rights. This successful victory would not have been possible without the civic virtues of each founding father.

Although, the unpreparedness to go into war was one of the main reasons for the bad defeats America faced. Jefferson had made very drastic military changes that hadn’t been rectified by Madison. Some of these changes included cutting the standing army down to a minimum and weakening the Navy. Consequently, these two weakened forces were not able be an effective fighting force by the time war came about. There had been a lot of change in warfare since the Revolutionary War. America’s leadership suffered greatly because the generals had no fighting experience for twenty years, putting American forces at a great disadvantage. Just as in any strategic situation, underestimation of an opponent can cause irreversible damage to one’s strength. Just as when the United States made an attempt to take on Canada. American forces were deterred three times by the British in Canada further showing how underestimation can be a big part in the success or failure of military operations. Throughout these attempts by America, the general found he would need a larger footprint of troops fighting. He then called upon the New York militia in hopes of attaining backup. Because of lack of enthusiasm and lack of unity within the citizens, the militia refused to respond to the request preventing America from capturing Canada. they viewed the American fighting force as a rabble in arms with incompetent leadership and no real sense of direction. While they weren’t all that far off the British went into the war feeling as if they would just walk all over the Americans and really felt little to no sense of urgency. This lack of urgency let the Americans stick around and stick around for much longer than necessary until they could come up with a strong counter attack and a plan to change the tides of war. The lack of urgency became apparent when General Howe decided again and again to stop the pursuit of the Continental Army and to not wipe it out once and for all. Having those extra days and months due to the British delay for the Americans was critical as without it the war would have been wiped out almost too early for that unity to fully foster that unity and then it would have been a complete non-factor and not just a secondary
The Americans had an advantage over the British for a simple reason: they were fighting for something they wanted, rather than the British fighting to “play defense” and prevent American independence. Americans colonists wanted to become an independant nation, have a new system of self governance, claim equal rights for all citizens, and rid themselves from tyranny.
