Even though there were many differences in slavery in northern and southern colonies, there were some similarities. Like how slaves in both colonies could not vote and were only counted as 1/3 of a white person. However, even with those similarities many still believed that slavery in the north wasn’t as harsh as it was in the south. Most slaves in the northern colonies had worked inside due to less fertile land. Northern slaves were treated as indentured servants, so they were able to work for their freedom after a certain period of time.
