The Northern and Southern Colonies had many differences and similarities. Politically and socially, in the Northern Colonies, the church controlled the law and was noticed throughout the colony. However, in the South, land owners were the wealthiest and controlled the laws. They were the dominant party instead of the church like in the Northern Colonies. The North was filled with small farms and larger cities whereas the South had larger plantations but fewer large cities. Another difference was that the South relied very heavily on slave labor.
