Ever since the turn of the twenty first century, the urge to keep a trim, slim figure has become increasingly desired. Pressure from beauty campaigns and other societal influences have drawn a picture of what it means to be beautiful; The picture is a thin, flawless girl sporting a yellow polka dot bikini whose diet consists of strictly salad. As a result, tons of insane, unrealistic dieting plans have emerged, most of which are just fancy and expensive ways of starving yourself. While most of these are highly unethical, a couple have persevered to be quite successful, not only with keeping the number on your scale down, but also with keeping down the numbers of your cholesterol and blood pressure. The fat is obtained mostly from olive oil and moderate amounts of poultry, dairy, red meat, and fish. The low saturated fat and high fiber content of this diet has shown many positive results. It has been known to decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and strokes. There have also been studies that say this diet can reduce your risk of getting cancer. As the title describes, this diet originated in countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. These countries include: Italy, Greece, southern France, and Spain. Veganism is a diet that consists of eating NO animal products. This includes any animal meat, eggs, dairy products, and honey. They are also known to boycott any company associated with animal cruelty and/or animal testing. Veganism is also known as a wholefood, plant based diet. As well as saving the animals, veganism is also a way to tremendously decrease the waste of fresh water and the levels of pollution in our environment. Because of these restrictions, they eat only vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts and seeds, and legumes. The main concern of skeptics, is whether or not this diet has a convincing source of protein. People who follow this diet rave about its benefits, not only in health, but in emotional wellbeing. They say that eating a clean diet like this one, keeps you energized and feeling amazing.
