I will be telling what basically happens in chapters 19 to 22. The first thing that happens is when Sal tries to warn her dad that Mrs. Cadaver that she’s a murderer. But the dad thought it was a joke and thought it was like catching a fish in the air.The next day at school, Mr. Birkway was talking about greek and at the end of the class he told Sal to stay after school. Mr. Birkway told her to write a mini journal about something that interested herself. Sal leaves Phoebe’s house and tells her dad about Phoebe’s mom. In school they had an exercise of 15 seconds of drawing a soul and after 15 seconds they inspected each others but it seems like Sal and Ben were the same. Sal was staying in her house and the next day Phoebe pretended that she was sick. They were about to go school Phoebe went down stairs where she finds her moms old sweater which reminded her about Sal’s mom leaving stuff that was important to their life. Phoebe goes to school where she tells her friends that mom is not here and went to London but was lying. She told Sal to come for dinner. Phoebe called her mom but her mom didn’t answer and Phoebe forgot her mom was gone. Phoebe had enough of her missing mom and was looking for clues, then she made the conclusion that she has been kidnapped. In chapter one we are introduced to our narrator, Ponyboy. Ponyboy is raised by his two older brothers Darry and Soda. They’re all apart of a gang called the “greasers” which is joined by Dally, Johnny, Two-bit, and Steve. There is another group called “ socs” which stands for socials, and everyone in that group is very wealthy. One day Ponyboy got jumped by a socs group, but luckily Darry was there to help before anything too serious happened. The first element of literature is characterization. Ponyboy is a keen observer, trying to make sense of the complexities of those around him. At the beginning of the story, he stops and spends several pages giving us brief character description on Steve, Two-Bit, Dally, and Johnny. This is also known as direct characterization. He tells us that Steve is "cocky and smart" ( Hinton 9). Two-Bit can 't stop joking around and goes to school for "kicks" (Hinton 10) rather than to learn. Dallas, he says, is "tougher, colder, meaner" ( Hinton 10) than the rest of them.
The short story, “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” by Evan Hunter, is about how a boy was stabbed during an alley, sidewalk. Andy, the one that got stabbed was a part of a gang known as the Angels. Before he got stabbed, he was at a Nightclub, He decided to take a smoke outside, moments later, Andy was jumped and got stabbed by another gang called the Guardians. As Andy hit the ground, he pled for help, however, no one heard. Time goes by, people were afraid or didn’t know he was dying, Andy began to lose hope. At this point, Andy knew he was dead and wouldn’t see Laura again. Hours later, he was found dead by Laura, Laura tried to help but she was too late. All in all, I believe the moral of this short story was to be yourself.

The article discusses how all three characters were listed by Book magazine to be names the Top 100 fictional characters since 1900. The character, Gatsby, was selected because of his trait to be the “cynical idealist, who embodies America in all of its messy glory.” The article continues on by stating how Gatsby would relate to a current American in today’s day in age. The passage above is on page 240 within chapter 28. Earlier on in this chapter Nomi describes what has happened, regarding the fact that her father just left. Not only has her father left now but her mother, sister, boyfriend, and best friend, have all left leaving her all alone. On top of that all, she has now been excommunicated from her small town. The beginning of this chapter introduces another obstacle she will have to over come, and this passage is the beginning of Nomi understanding that she has to now step up to the plate and be responsible for what is going on around her. This passage changes the way the reader may have though she would react in this situation. I though that she would have had a break down or ran away just like everyone else did. But the quote has a very clam tone which led me to eventually think other wise.
First, after a couple of weeks since their mother left, the girls become lazy. They don’t have much motivation to do their work. But, during these weeks, one of the girls, Beth, goes to the Hummels everyday to help take care of their baby, while the baby’s mother is at work. Though, the baby is very sick with scarlet fever and soon dies in Beth’s arms. After the baby dies of scarlet fever, everyone is scared that Beth might have come down with it. Beth becomes very sick and has her sisters, nurse, and doctor watch over her. The sisters don’t tell their mother that Beth is sick because they don’t want to worry her, while she is visiting their father, since he is ill.
I think that what the author was trying to imply in this passage was that in his personal experience, he has noticed that many people take many things for granted and that they don’t live their lives according to what they want and need to do. So much is wasted during one’s lifetime, and people just allow their lives to pass them by.
The very first lines of the story sets the tone and setting of this book. It explains that in order for a man to be successful, he needs a wife. It lays the foundation for the idea that a women depends on man to survive in society. Wealthy, upper class men were the biggest targets for a women to marry because marriage was the entrance into high society. Mrs. Bennet exclaims, “Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year. What a fine thing for our girls!
