Football is a mans sport! You have top give up your body and all your free time to play football. People call the football field, the gridiron. Football has changed a lot, from the jerseys the players wear to the equipment we use. Football was a deadly sport back then, people would break bones and lose teeth. Until this guy came along and changed the game.
Walter Camp came up with American football back in 1879. The rules are like American rugby. The first two teams to play American football were Rutgers and Princeton. On “November 6, 1869, Rutgers University faced Princeton University in a game that was played with a round ball.”
Football back then was mixture of soccer and rugby. Football got banned at Princeton University on 1860 and a year later Harvard university banned it. Walter Camp developed a new way of football back in 1878. He changed how many players you can have on the field at one time, the line of scrimmage, and you have to have the center snap the ball to the quarterback.
The forward pass didn’t come till 1906. It was meant not only to open up the game, but also to reduce injuries. 19 deaths were reported in 1905; President Theodore Roosevelt threatened shutting down the game if the rules were not changed.
It was also a gamble to pass the ball. An incomplete pass resulted in a 15-yard penalty, and a pass that was dropped without being touched meant the possession went to the defensive team. It wasn’t till 1907 when Glenn Scobey drew up trick plays such as the flea flicker, reverses, and end routs. On a kickoff he made a play that the player with the ball would tuck it in his jersey and all the other players would run around so the other team would get confused and wouldn’t know who had the ball.

...hen the season was over for NFL players, all they did was sit around, but now players trade 365 days. They are trying to get better because if they don’t practice someone else will take their spot. One of the reasons players practice everyday is because they want to be the very best. Who wants to finish second, when they can be first? And that’s why the Super Bowl is such a big thing to the coaches and players in the NFL. They bust their butts to get there, and only one team will have a happy ending. The Super Bowl is the biggest game in the NFL, every off-season player and coaches work to get there. The Super Bowl was first played on January 15, 1967 the Green Bay Packers were the first team to win the Super Bowl and they didn’t just win the first one, they one the second too. The Super Bowl got its name after the first coach to win the Super Bowl, Vince Lombardi.

America’s newfound favorite pastime, football, came from a bizarre chain of events. Football started when a soccer player got fed up with just kicking the ball, so he picked up the ball and ran to the goal. His actions of picking up the ball and running with it fathered a new European sport, rugby, which was soon brought over to American shores, and was altered slightly, the shape of the ball and a few other small rules. The sport became organized into a league and produced the NFL(National Football League). The NFL had a slow beginning, but has picked up popularity, currently having a $9 billion yearly revenue.
Flag football was created in 1933, and was played by many military officers by the 1940s. The soldiers could not play tackle football due to the risk of injure. The officers needed to be uninjured for battles. When the officers went back home to their families they brought flag football home with them. Early leagues began in the 1960s and the first flag football association was formed. The National Touch Football League changed the rules to touching being the way to “tackle” a player instead of the grabbing the flag. Flag football infiltrated colleges and championships started to be held by various universities. Flag football went pro in 1997 and the Professional Flag Football League, Inc. was formed.

Football is considered a dangerous sport and has caused severe injuries to players and even death. Football was becoming corrupted, players started hurting others to stop them from playing for good. President Roosevelt realized football was turning into a problem, with the request of the headmaster, he decided to get more involved. Roosevelt first attempt to saving football was a meeting with the coaches and directors of Yale, Princeton, and Harvard to confer the brutality of football. The first attempt was ineffective due to the fact that the coaches of Yale, Princeton, and
When the discussion about how the United States is different from other countries comes up people are quick to say football, the American way, but more specifically the NFL. The NFL, which stands for National Football League, was birthed in 1922 after changing its name from the American Professional Football Association (NFL 2013). Since the birth of American football, fans and players raised the NFL to become the most popular sport worldwide. According to Isidore (2013), the NFL had a profit of $9.5 billion, the highest of all American professional sports. The profit, however, barely comes from sales produced by women merchandise.
The National Football League was formed on August 20, 1920. Players wore pads, not quite as protective as the ones today, helmets and legs pads. Even though their protective gear wasn 't all that protective they still made contact with the players of the opposing teams. As the years progressed the league made many changes to the rules due to player safety. They invented better protective gear for the players and they also made more strict rules regarding playing guidelines. The main goal of those rules, like the targeting rule that is so controversial today, is to protect the players. The targeting rule itself states that no player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown of his helmet, when in

Players added many rules that changed the game, and each school interpreted them differently. In 1848, a group of school representatives met at Trinity College in Cambridge and drew up the first set of soccer rules (Brooks Clark, 1993). In 1863, representatives of English soccer clubs founded the English football clubs found the English Football Association.
The rules of American football can be really hard to understand at first, especially the level of play. First the game of football is a timed sport. It’s divided up with 4 quarters and a halftime to give players a break and fans time to go to the
Football changed dramatically in the 1920's. Players such as Red Grange, Jim Thorpe, and Notre Dame's Four Horsemen changed the game forever. With their unique style of play, they escalated football to new heights and more competetive levels. Each had their own style of play, which made other teams try harder to get better and beat the other teams. Other things, such as the forward pass, also changed the game of football in the 1920's. However, it was the players and their talent that forever changed American football.
Next, on November 12, 1892 came the first professional level game played between the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. Finally, in 1920, the American Professional Football Association became the country’s first organized football league. Back then, the game resembled rugby more than the current game of football. Over time, the rules have been constantly changing in order to boost the excitement level and increase the game’s safety. The first of safety rules came in 1938 when they established roughing the passer, which prevented the defense from hitting the passer after he threw the ball. This was directly to protect the quarterback. Next, in 1943, helmets became mandatory for all players on the field. This was the first step to helping protect the wellness of the players’ heads, even though they were unaware of the seriousness of hits to the head and any long term
As far back as I can remember, every year, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends would gather at my family’s home to watch this event called the Super Bowl. It was something that could not be missed, because if you did, you were considered a lost cause. Everyone feels the need to belong. Some people find the answer to fulfill that need in sports. In the United States, the go-to sport is football.
The concept of football started back in the late 1800’s from what we know as rugby. In the years to come football changed more and more to how we know it today. The first official football game was played in 1869 when Rutgers and Princeton took on each other. Walter Camp, who was the Coach for Yale at that time, was the first person to develop some of the first rules and regulations to the sport. Camp came up with many of the concepts that we know today such as the system of downs, the use of eleven players down from fifteen, and the size of the field. Other rules that were implemented by Camp were the concept of the line of scrimmage, safety, and the forward pass (Bellis, 2014).
The difference between Cuju and soccer today is the number of players is flexible in Cuju. Another difference is not all Cuju matches are won by goals. The game is decided by how well the players played the game (Who Invented Football). “ Who Invented Football” goes on to say that soccer in Rome is a lot different from others. Rome has no rules, strategies, or tactics. Play consists of fifty-four players ( twenty-seven on each team) whose only purpose was to get the ball to the opposing teams goal. Carelessness of players led to death. For example, a ball was accidentally kicked towards a barber shaving a customer, and the barber lost control and cut the customer 's throat ( “Who Invented Football”). It has been noted by Richard Sanders that Queens Park Club in Glasgow in 1876 marked the true birth of Modern football. Association football began to filter down the social scale when football started to spread rapidly through Lancashire, Black Country, and Britain. The spread of football to these
