My determinant of health essay has been chosen on Income and social status. Many Personal Support Workers will come across various different scenarios when working with people of different culture, health issues, disability, social activities, needs and financial. Personal Support Workers are often referred to as the front line workers as they become they eyes and ears of their client, being a part their lives on a daily basis, therefore, being able to report any changes to their superior. The client regardless of their income, high or low or their social status should not be judged and are treated respectfully. Personal Support Worker’s may also come across individuals with financial or social issues and this could reflect on their personality. You can let them know of assistance or guidance programs available in the community, although assisting or steering a client what you feel might be in the right direction, should always being given with an error of caution as not to promote any breakdown of trust or interference. Income and social status outlines that usually a higher or lower income determines our environmental and housing living condition, the ability to provide a better-balanced diet, healthier foods and a home within a safer community. Firstly our income and social status control our needs in day to day living similarly with our mental, physical and emotional purpose. Secondly, the lesser income determines poorer living environments, housing, diet, fitness, education, and employment. Thirdly a low income or minimum wage can result in a parent or parents having to work various jobs, trying to make ends meet, making no time available for a child or children.
