Dental Clinic Peer Observation

The peer observation with the second year student was an amazing experience. I as a freshman student had the opportunity to assist the senior and to observe how she performed her competencies. Also, I witness how the senior used her beginner’s knowledge to implement the therapeutic services and the preventive education to the patient.

The second year student was very prepared for the clinic. She was extremely meticulous with decontamination and organized in setting up her station.

Since this observation was in the afternoon, I did not attend the pre-conference session. However, the senior informed me that this is an excellent time to which a student can express his or her concern about the patient such as any medical alerts and what should or should

The medical history was the next step. After this, the instructor proceeded to check the medical history and gave the OK to a clinician to initiate the examination. The clinician had to obtain a signed consent form from the patient’s mother before initiate the dental treatment. While the clinician was examining the patient, the clinician complimented her for doing a great job brushing her teeth since the last appointment. Communication between the clinician and the patient is very important to make the patient feel confident about the clinician’s ability. He began with four bitewings films and one panoramic. He makes the disinfection of small x-rays room while he was explained me some tips that help me for my upcoming work. This conversation helps me so much because I refreshed my own disinfection procedure. The panoramic x-rays machine was a new experience to me. Now I have a better understanding of this procedure and from the radiology lecture, them he developed all x-rays and presented then to the doctor. He continued with cleaning and polishing because she did not have
