Delite Meats is the number one consumer rated meat producer on the island where chicken is the number one choice of meat. Recently, Delite Meats has found themselves in the middle of an environmental scandal. As consequence, the board of directors is concern that this situation could affect the public perception of the company and therefore affect the price of shares of the company. The Research & Development department has outlined what it would mean to make the transition to organic products and the Chairman believes it will position the company back to number one consumer's choice. Analysis Delite Meats problems started as a consequence of discharging untreated effluent into the island’s main waterway and fishing, these actions are in contravention of the environmental law. In any effort to correct such situation not only organizations must take responsibility for their actions but they must be socially accountable. Social accountability is “an approach of reporting a firm’s activities which stresses the need for the identification of socially relevant behavior, the determination of those to whom the company is accountable for its social performance and development of appropriate measures and reporting techniques” (Crowther, 2000, p. 20). Delite Meats has spent time, efforts and money correcting the problem by making monetary restitution to fishermen. Furthermore, there is social media questioning campaign being driven by consumers between the ages of 18-35. The social media campaign with over 10,000 followers goes like this, # Name + Shame Inhumane Meat! Producers. As a matter of fact, this social media campaign can be used as an advantage for Delite Meats because social media tools empower stakeholders and communities to access and share information on company behaviors and projects as they are implemented, therefore, the stockholders will become the company advocates of CSR
