A smile is the result of a feeling of joy and peace manifested on one’s face. Outwardly, it is only a spreading of lips and show of teeth. Inwardly, it is the result of a rare and precious gift from life; it is relief, contentment, and happiness. A smile is a facial expression that demonstrates what words cannot.

Grins and smiles, among other gleeful expressions, occur in many different situations. One common situation is when one greets a coworker or a fellow student. The smile expresses warmth and welcoming, although not necessarily relief or contentment. Seeing co-workers and companions is an everyday occurrence, and while it does bring mild joy, it is not true, fulfilling joy, because there is no inner peace. Unfortunately, especially in public places with acquaintances, smiles have become a mask worn to demonstrate a false feeling of love. It has transformed into something that people take for granted on a daily basis.

Yet, at the same time, a genuine smile can be found in everyday situations, though it is more rare. Take, for example, one walking through the store. When making eye contact with a complete stranger, who smiles at them, they can’t help but smile back because something about that smile is genuine. For example, when a person is in a severe accident, their friends will be panicked, with anxieties overwhelming them and keeping them from slumber.
