The contemporary cinematography is a huge and diverse world where everyone can find a movie and/or genre they love the most. A lot of directors with different views and backgrounds are making movies and it is hard to pick one to analyse as everyone’s work is beautiful and deep in their own way. But for this assignment, I decided to choose David Fincher and try to lift the curtain of the complex world of his movies. David Fincher wanted to be a director since the early childhood. And particularly, two events in his life established the choice of becoming a movie director. When Fincher was 7 years old, he saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and thought that moviemaking can actually be fun (Collin). Age 12, he realised that he was living near George Lucas, the creator of American Graffiti, and thought that directing is within reach of everyone (Collin). …show more content…

Fincher understood that moviemaking has to be not only for the money but for the directors themselves as well so he turned down every compromise and literally was driving half of the studio mad (Collin). And even though this movie made money, it gained negative critic reviews and Fincher was away from cinema world for some time. And only two years later after the premiere of Alien 3, he came across the script for the psychological thriller called Se7en. This time, David Fincher understood that he didn’t have a right to make a mistake again. After its release in the theatres, movie gain critical acclaims who praised not only the actors’ performances but also the shooting style, accurate plot and the shocking ending which can be the cruelest among all Fincher movies. After Se7en, David found his own style and what kind of movie he wants to make, he continued to create movie in his own style. And that makes him different from other directors in the modern
