DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY AND THERAPEUTIC DANCE :
Dance Movement Therapy and Therapeutic dance are two different words with extremely different meaning .On one hand Therapeutic dance is practiced by talented and highly skilled dance teachers who are not trained as therapists but work within institutions such as schools, prisons and so on and on the other hand DMT is practiced by Dance movement therapists who are highly trained and educable for the same . Both the concepts overlap giving rise to some fruitful cross-fertilization and the aim of both is some what similar to each other in order to help individual facing problem to cope with their life. Lot of British dance movement therapists have trained in BMC , but all BMC practitioners have been registered as dance movement therapists .
• Gabrielle Roth’s five rhythms such as flowing , staccato, chaos, lyrical ,stillness which is viewed as a form of shamanism in 1990. The work centers around five rhythmic structures within which the dancer improvises his/her own work.
• Circle dance based on folk dancers from different cultures and often deemed to hold archetypal and healing significance .

KEY PRINCIPLES OF DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY:
Dance movement therapy have certain theoretical principles .namely:
• Body and mind interact in order to bring change in movement will affect total functioning.
• Movement reflects personality and the way an individual present himself/herself.
• The therapeutic relationship is mediated non-verbally ,for example - therapist imitating the client’s movements.
• Body movement contains a symbolic function and that can be regarded as evidence of unconscious processes.
• Movement improvisation allows the client to explore and experiment with unique ways of being.
