This is a complicated case in my opinion, because the only people who witnessed the murder are Cyntoia and the man she murdered, so we will never really know if she killed out of self defense or not. She is guilty of murder for which life in prison is a justifiable sentence. However if she was doing it out of self defense then we can’t blame her for protecting her life. What made the guy she murdered different than the others that she encountered over the years of forced prostitution, it’s not like she has a history of past murders so that makes you wonder if her life was really being threatened. Maybe she didn’t do it out of self defense and this murder was her way out of the sex trafficking life she was forced into to. Since murdering because of self defense cannot be proven in her case it seems that she is guilty of murder and she has to serve sixty years in prison. Cyntoia Brown the police departments identification team said Johnny Allen, the man Cyntoia murdered appeared to be in the position he was when they found him that he was in when he was shot. His positioning was with his hands folded under his head like he had been asleep when he was shot, and not reaching for a gun like Cyntoia said. If she was killing him out of self defense then there was no reason that she needed to steal his wallet, two guns to sell for money as she stated in her confession to the police department, and then drove his truck to a nearby walmart. Instead, she should have contacted the police and stated that she was a minor that was solicited for sex and shot her abuser out of self defense, but she didn’t do this. She fled the crime scene and stole from the man she murdered, this looks really bad for her case to prove that she was the victim that stood up to her
