Is Bullying Effecting the Twenty-First Century?
Bullying is now considered a prevalent and often a neglected problem in schools and communities both within and outside the United States amongest teens and adolescents. That beind said, bullying has effected success in the twenty-first century. While most people might think that bullying starts by the middle school and high school years, studies have reported peer victimization starts by “children as young as kindergartenerners” (Kochen, Clerfer, and Ladd, 1996). Physical, verbal, hidden and cyberbullying are four of the most common types of bullying that are used today by children and adolescents. Physical bullying is one of the most obvious forms of bullying that is used to gain power and control over. Most of the time aggressors will be stronger, bigger and will for a physical attack on an individual such as hitting, kicking, slapping, shoving, and punching. Verbal bullying is when the aggressor(s) will name-call and use words and statements to gain control. This form of bullying is one of the most difficult ones to identify mainly because it happens most when adults are not present. These cruel insults are used to belittle or hurt an individual. This form of bullying is mostly used to target those of special needs. Hidden bullying is very sneaky and deceptive. This form of bullying often goes unnoticed by teachers and parents. This form of bullying is also sometimes identified as emotional because this type involves social manipulation. Hidden bullying a lot of the times form groups, spread rumors, break confidences and more. Lastly one of the most common type used is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying has became so popular that it is viral. Cyber bullying is when the aggreessor (s) use technology such as the internet, cell phone, tablet or any form of electronic to harrass, embrass, or threaten and individual. Cyber bullying can include posting hurtful images, sending cruel texts and emails, as well as making threats online.
