Cultural Differences Between South Korea And The United States

The first two most major differences would be the language and the culture of South Korea compared the the United States. I plan on using my free time to study and learn as much Korean as I can before I move to South Korea for a semester. I also aim to study how the culture in South Korea is different from the culture in Raleigh, North Carolina so I can be as prepared as possible. However, I do realize that I will still have much to learn about South Korea that can only be learned by living there. Learning in Seoul for a semester about different customs, etiquette, language, and culture would be a an invaluable opportunity to be given. A large similarity I expect is the fact that I will still be in a learning environment. That is, a majority of my free time is going to be spent in class, in the library studying, or on campus talking with professors and study groups. This similarity will help me handle all the new and different things I will experience; to have school to lean back on to help me feel more at home and used to my surroundings will also help me stay focused on my studies. Another difference in studying at Seoul National University is the fact that Seoul is the capital of South Korea, and the population of Seoul is almost ten million compared to the barley five hundred thousand people in Raleigh, North Carolina. To live in a city that is so much more populous and vast would be incredibly different from anything I have ever experienced in my life.
