Looking under the microscope at one simple problem and it will be apparent that there are countless appendages squirming around the nucleus. As in the movies "Analyze This" and "Analyze That" there was a problem that needed to be solved. This problem stemmed from the head of a mob organization and was solved adequately but in an unorthodox method. The similarities between analyzing this problem for the mob and analyzing a problem in a business setting, such as unprofessional behavior, is that there should be a procedure full of steps. These steps are both concrete and flexible given the stage of analysis. Management has the advantage of learning from past problems and mistakes to adapt to future problems. However, this flexibility should become concrete when the problem is under the microscope. The only way to effectively address the given problem is to ask the right questions and analyze them accordingly. These upcoming questions are used to obtain valuable insight and offer a clear and concise means of dealing with the problem.
Critical thinking is imperative to each and every question in the following paragraphs. Without this tool the business setting would be filled with unnecessary shortcomings and wouldn't have the proper amount of logic to ask the right questions. The eight questions are steps to identify the problem and give clear and concise insight.
People can tell when there is a problem by certain signs. In the business setting the same is true. Being aware of unmotivated, unproductive workers is a tell tale sign of problems. With unprofessional behavior the symptoms all point to one direction, and that is the lack of respect. (2006) In the case of sexual harassment the signs could be the amount of male workers conversing with female workers about personal related matters. This should not be the case because professional relationships should only care about the business at hand. Another sign of an unwanted event is from the attire and individual wears and the type of attitude they have when wearing those cloths. Seductive clothing shouldn't be allowed in businesses because of the distractions it causes and the loss of time and profitability. In present day, many sales associates accentuate their bodily features to make a sale but ethically speaking the product should sell itself. In business there should be respect for coworkers, management, other companies, and most importantly for yourself.
The author Vincent Ruggiero defines critical thinking in his book Beyond Feelings: A Guide to Critical Thinking, as a “search for answers, a quest.” It is the idea that one does not accept claims, ideas, and arguments blindly, but questions and researches these things before making a decision on them. From what I learned in class, critical thinking is the concept of accepting that there are other people and cultures in this world that may have different opinions. It is being able to react rationally to these different opinions.

Chris had just been promoted as an Executive Assistant for Pat the CEO, Chief Executive Officer, of Faith Community Hospital. Pat had given Chris her very first assignment on her first day of work as an executive assistant and that was to gather information so that Pat can present the issues to the board of directors. Faith Hospital is faced with issues that needed attention and the board of directors must be notified of the issues so that a solution can be remedy to help the hospital stay in business.

According to a recent study, the causes of sexual harassment in the workforce can be exceedingly difficult due to the fact that employee’s are dependent on each other for team work and support, and are reliant on their supervisor’s approval for time off and career advancement. Supervisors and employers take advantage of their supremacy they have over their employees. Such closeness and intensity can distort the professional boundaries which lead people to cross over the line. The report also reported that Politics can be a catalyst, and problems caused by poor management, workplace bullying, frustration, and job/financial insecurity which creates a hostile environments. Furthermore, personal problems can also play a factor, and sexual harassment can be a symptom of the effects of life traumas, such as divorce, or death of a spouse or child (Sexual Harassment in the Workplace).
Critical thinking is a process of applying various skills to analyze information. Critical thinking uses rationality to distinguish between emotion and fact. This paper will discuss the definition of critical thinking, and the skills it takes to think critically. It will also provide an example of critical thinking applied to my current working environment. Finally this paper will discuss the importance and benefits of critical thinking in the decision-making processes.
Thinking critically and making decisions are important parts of today’s business environment. It is important to understand how the decision making process works and the steps involved. The nine steps of the decision making process are: identifying the problem, defining criteria, setting goals and objectives, evaluating the effect of the problem, identifying the causes of the problem, framing alternatives, evaluating impacts of the alternatives, making the decision, implementing the decision, and measuring the impacts. (Decision, 2007.) By using various methods and tools to assist in making important business decisions an individual can ensure the decisions they make will be as successful as possible. In this paper it will be examined how the decision making process can be followed using various tools and techniques to make successful business decisions by using these same tools and techniques during a thinking critically business scenario. The paper will also discuss how different tools and techniques could have been used to make different, yet still successful decisions.
In his essay Critical Thinking: What Is It Good For? (In Fact, What Is It), Howard Gabennesch explains the importance of critical thinking by drawing attention to how its absence is responsible for societies many ills including, but not limited to, the calamity in Vietnam. Yet, at the end of his essay, Gabennesch also mentions that, despite “the societal benefits of critical thinking, at the individual level, uncritical thinking offers social and psychological rewards of its own.”(14). Similarly, it is these rewards that, like the bait on a fishhook, often make individuals hesitant to engage in critical thinking despite the resulting harm to both them and society.
Critical thinking and decision-making are related in more ways than people think. This paper will define critical thinking and decision-making according to the book Whatever It Takes. It will also present a personal definition of critical thinking and decision-making from the author of this paper. The relationship between the two will be explained as well as the benefits of being a critical thinker. The legal definition of sexual harassment is any unwelcome sexual advance or conduct on the job that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Another definition is the making of unwanted and offensive sexual advances or of sexually offensive remarks or acts, especially by one in a superior or supervisory position. Women and men of all ages, backgrounds, races and experience are harassed on the job. Sexual harassment encountered in workplaces is a hazard across the world that reduces the quality of working life, jeopardizes the well-being of women and men, undermines gender equality and imposes costs on firms and organizations.
