When the blood glucose level decreasing as expected, the insulin infusion will be increased each hour until a steady glucose decline of between 50 and 70 mg/dL/hr is achieved. Initially, blood glucose test performed hourly then when the blood glucose level stabilizes the frequency decreases to every 2-4 hours (Urden et al., 2014, p. 822). Once blood glucose level stabilizes, the patient is generally managed with subcutaneous insulin based on sliding

The nursing profession has develop gradually and greatly over time, moving from one concept to another dependence upon total medical direction providing basic care into an independent practice modality with its own nursing theory practice, nursing models, and distinct nursing interventions. Nursing theories have been developed by a large number of leaders in the nursing field; Ms Roy is a major contributor to the development of professional nursing practice, she is famous for the adaption theory
Assignment two Nursing logic The second assignment on ATI was called Nursing Logic. Under this module, there were four units; knowledge and clinical judgment, nursing concepts, priority setting frameworks, and testing and remediation. These units provided rich explanations to nursing students on how to gain knowledge and obtain the necessary clinical judgment, the importance of prioritizing care in certain situations, and the values of testing and remediation throughout nursing school. Unit one
information, matter, and energy” (Gonzalo, 2011, para. 1). In Roy’s theory the five major concepts include: the environment, health, person, nursing goals, and adaptation. I feel the most important major concept is the adaptation portion of the theory. Adaptation is the primary bases of the theory and has four parts: physiological, self-concept, role, and interdependence. I have utilized Roy’s theory into my own nursing practice in order to identify stimuli that the patient is experiencing within his/her
create a difference in health care. “In nursing, theories are systematic explanations of events in which constructs and concepts are identified; relationships are proposed; and predictions are made to describe, explain, predict, or prescribe practice and research. Without nursing theory, nursing activities and interventions are guided by rote, tradition, some outside authority, or hunches, or they may simply be random” (McEwen, & Wills, 2014, 72). The foundation of nursing profession is rooted in theory
Nursing Models Nursing theories are significant to the nursing practices since they offer assumptions, hypotheses, and ideas which can be utilized in different situations of patient care. The models provide a wide range of conceptual structures that nurses can base their practices. This paper shall discuss two nursing theories including Betty Neuman Systems’ Model and Roy Adaptation approach about their application on patient care. The theories are described in detail and compared regarding the nursing
of this paper is to illustrate the key points of Virginia Henderson’s theory “Concepts of Nursing” (CON) and its application in practice using specific examples. Henderson’s CON is a grand theory written in 1978. (Waller-Wise, 2013) The CON theory provides a definition of nursing care, responsibilities and a focus on specific areas where nursing care is required. (Waller-Wise, 2013) As Henderson (1978) writes, “Nursing is primarily helping people (sick or well) in the performance of those activities
Critical Care Outreach Nurse Introduction Within the last ten years an increased demand of contemporary healthcare has created a shift in nursing. This shift has created a need to strengthen the quality and safety of practice, in addition to re-examining the clinical roles within nursing (Delamaine and Lafortune, 2010). In order to respond to the requirements of contemporary healthcare, advanced practice nursing (APN) roles or ‘specialist nursing roles’ have evolved over the years and are currently
Nursing process discipline is a nursing theory developed by nursing theorist, Ida Jean Orlando. This theory, one of the first written about the nursing process, was written to help establish nursing as an independent function in providing health care for a patient. Through this independent nursing function, Orlando developed her theory on the concept of the nurse-patient interaction. During that interaction the nurse recognizes a patient behavior as an “… immediate need for help” (George, 2011
Roy’s Adaptation Model, by Sister Callista Roy, is a conceptual nursing model that views humans as biopsychosocial adaptive systems who cope with environmental change through the process of adaptation (Roy & Andrews, 1999; Roy & Zhan, 2006; Tomey & Alligood, 2006). The process of adaptation may be either an adaptive (positive) or an ineffective (negative) response and adaptation occurs when the person responds positively to environmental changes (Roy, 1984). The person receives stimuli from both

Professionalism in the nursing profession provides a sense of individuality on how individuals treat, act, and respect each other on and off the job. Professionalism starts with respect towards others and upholding a sense of integrity for the nursing profession and the patients being cared for. Since nurses are a representation of the organization and are providing the care to patients, it is important for nurses to uphold a high standard of professional behavior at all times. Through a concept map of professionalism

It is because of the impact that Florence Nightingale & other pioneers had on the profession, that nursing as a occupation is what it is today. Many of the modern advancements in nursing took place after significant events in history such as WWII, when the development of technology was starting to take a larger role in society. In modern times, nurses
constructing the client system to include the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual variables (Neuman & Fawcett, 2002). The client system is also shown in the model as circles to include a basic core structure (basic survival factors), lines of resistance (closest to the core and protects the system), normal line of defense (normal state of operating), and flexible line of defense (outer boundary
theory is a set of concepts, definitions and propositions that projects a systematic view of phenomena by designating specific interrelationships among concepts for purposes of describing, explaining ,predicting and/or controlling phenomena(chin & Jacobs,1987). Nursing theory is a conceptualization of reality which is intended to describe , explain ,modify or predict a particular phenomena related to nursing care and practice . There are several theories pertaining to the basic concept of patient caring
