It had been several months since the attacks started, first D.C fell and then everything went to hell in a handbasket. People turned on each other, and with no formal government, people did what was right in their own eyes. It reminded Ken of Judges, and the deep descent into sin that they went through. Ken and his brother Paul had been on the road for a few months now, slowly creeping their way to colorado with the hope of finding their brother and parents. It weighed on Ken’s heart to have seen what everyone had become, although they did not become what they are, they had always been that way. Ken looked at him, he could see that this lifestyle was weighing on his brother. Paul’s blue eyes were constantly darting around, looking for every possible danger. His dark black hair was tousled and messy. Paul’s broad shoulders were slumped and his exhaustion was very visible. “Should we go through the woods?” Paul asked. Realizing that the terrain had changed Ken looked up and scanned the edge of the thick forest. “Not now, let's stay on the road until dark.” Paul nodded, he was uncomfortable with the thought of being out in the open, but he had also come to terms with the fact that Ken called the shots. “How are you doing sweetheart?” Paul inquired of the black and white border collie as she trotted along as if she had no care in the world. The old high school that they both had attended looked worn down, but still used. This bothered Paul, “Let’s steer clear” Paul requested. As he often did Ken processed the request and ignored it, “Come on little brother let us reminisce about the times where we weren't constantly checking our backs for gun men.” “I don’t like the looks of this place, it is like people have been here recently.” As Paul uttered that last sentence a single gunshot flew over their heads. Then came a voice, that had a twinge of familiarity in Ken’s ears. “I may have missed but I promise i'm not a bad shot, and i will prove it if you do not stop moving.” The humor in his voice turned Ken’s face red as he pulled his rifle off his back. “Show yourself” Ken screamed, annoyed and afraid he turned aggressive. “Very well, if you put your gun down first.” Remembering the handgun in the back of his pants, and thinking about how he could trick the unseen gunman. Ken laid down his rifle, and Paul followed suit. From utop the school a hooded man climbed down to meet them, as he turned and his face was revealed Ken realized why he sounded familiar. “Jack?” Exclaimed the startled Ken, “Kenneth?
