In "The Lady, or the Tiger?" by Frank Stockton, the main conflict is in the title of the story itself. The princess has to decide to herself which door her lover has to enter, the one with the woman she despises or the one with the tiger that will kill him. This decision is left unknown at the end of the story. But, most likely, the princess will choose the door with the tiger. The princess knew that the beautiful young lady had admired her lover from a distance, and she had realized his lover had did the same. This made the princess jealous as she wanted him to herself. The princess did not want her lover to find happiness with another woman. And, in addition, the princess has "savage blood" that courses through her and she also has "barbaric"
New Yorker Elizabeth Kalbert focuses on a story on America’s Top Parent. Amy Chua a writer on “The Roar of the Tiger mom,” Kalbert tells how there are two kinds of mothers. Amy Chua for instance is a Chinese woman who keeps her children from the outside world Chua, and her daughters of Chinese immigrants. Her daughters and herself practice their work every day and is a law school professor, who also includes only the best for her children. Although western mothers think they are being strict when their children were to practice their work.
What would you do if someone you loved was being tried and they either lost their life or had to live with someone else? This is the choice that a young princess was faced with, but what did she choose? In “The Lady Or The Tiger,” the princess gave into her own greed and would rather see her lover die, than see him happy with someone else. She would rather end his life shorter for her own good instead of having his best interest at heart.
Now let us go back a few days prior to the current events. Upon learning of her father’s decision to place her lover on trial, the young princess approached her father to see if she could sway his decision. Knowing that she was cherished above all else, she thought that she could revert his decision and free her young hero from the clutches of fate. “Father,” said the young princess. “Do you not love me above all else in this world?” she asked. “More than anything,” replied the semi-barbaric king. “Is it then not your wish to preserve my happiness because that is what will give you the greatest joy?’ she then asked in a way that only a daughter can ask a father. “Child,” he replied, “The happiness that you seek is not the happiness that is befitting of one of such high esteem.” “My word is law, and the law states that the blood of the common people and royalty do not mesh well together. The purity of our royal blood line must and will be maintained.” "But fear not my precious beauty,” he said in a tone that hinted with a touch of sarcasm. “Should the young man choose right, his fate will have him spend his days with the most prized of young maidens that I have found.” It was then, that she knew of the one her father had chosen for her lover. The one, who if decided by fate, would occupy her place in the bed that she had shared with the one who possessed her heart. The thought of this inferior creature possessing the one man who understood her true nature infuriated the future queen. How could one of such lowly stature possess something that she could not? I believe the conflict in the story is an internal one. I think it is the conflict between the old woman's will power and Mother Nature. She encounters many obstacles that would influence most people to give up but she has motivation to get her task done. These encounters include a bush catching onto her dress, a scarecrow frightening her and discouragement from a white man. She also had to climb hills, cross streams and crawl under barbed wire fences which is certainly not considered an easy task for an elderly woman.. If I was forced to deal with these obstacles I know that I would most likely have turned around but her will power was too strong to let Mother Nature win.
Conflict first arises when Blanche arrives at the Kowalski household and Stanley's authority over his home is questioned. Stanley has always had authority and control of his home and also his wife Stella. When Blanche arrives he feels that he is being invaded and doesn't agree with it. His "rat race" style of life doesn't match with Blanches but has somehow converted Stella. One of the main themes about conflict is that Stanley and Blanche are in a battle to win Stella and neither of them will give her up.

Balram observes his masters actions and eventually becomes more successful than him, but consequently loses his innocence.
