Confirmation: The Beginning of My Spiritual Journey My life changed through Confirmation. This story takes place at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, on a warm spring day starring a 14 year old me. All events in this story affected me greatly, containing only truth. The experience I witnessed made me part of the Catholic community for life, joining me with thousands of other believers, and letting me give back to the community. This spiritual journey begins when I came of age, the beginning of 9th grade, and I never realized how much it changes life. Finally, after weeks in a classroom that felt more like a prison cell, they confirmed our readiness. My heart pounded like it would fly out of my chest if I mustered any more nervousness. My fingers tingled and I felt so much excitement to become one with the Church. How can you blame me for feeling this way? Up to this point, this event was the biggest in my entire life. Today, the big day, I prepared to walk with every other confirmation student in the Church. My hair, spiked with gel, my suit pristinely ironed, and my face clean shaven, made me feel as though I fancy dinner in the same outfit. The sponsor I choose, my Pop, stood next to me preparing to walk. After I walked down the isle, the Bishop blessed me, gave me my confirmation name, and sent me off, a member of the Catholic family. Later, as I arrived at my celebration party, I saw my family beaming with pride. I looked around me, and realized that everyone here I to go to Mass with. They were my family, but they also symbolized the new Church family I gained. To this day, I practice my faith, and remember the day my life changed.
