For over thirty years, fans all over the world have battled over two major space sagas. These empires began the space race in the media; they have inspired every space story ever since. While some immediate similarities may be observed, such as the word ‘star’ in both of their titles, their setting in space, and their futuristic technology, they are different in almost significant aspect of their narratives. Star Wars outshines the older saga in nearly every way.

The humans have ‘evolved’ from their warring state and are now the superior species in the universe. This detracts from their story; through most of the episodes Star Trek seems to be trying to teach the audience something that never really makes sense. Instead of seeming like some sort of utopia, the Earth in Star Trek appears unattainable and unrealistic. While Star Trek can only boast one confusing weapon, the phaser, Star Wars has simple ones such as the blaster and lightsaber; these are simple to understand and intriguing to see in action.

The effects and jargon in Star Wars are smoother than those in Star Trek. The difference in the quality of the visual events may be excused by the eleven year time difference between the productions of the two shows. Nonetheless, while the effects may be excused, they are neither forgiven nor ameliorated. The jargon that both sagas use due to their advanced setting also sets Star Wars apart. Star Trek is very obvious about its special science speak, whereas in Star Wars in merely helps set the tone of its setting.

Although the comparability of the two sagas may be dubious, fans will continue to compare anyways throughout the years. Star Trek and Star Wars specialize in TV shows and movies respectively, although they are also both expanding into the other presently. Overall, Star Wars has been much more readily accepted by the masses throughout the years than Star Trek ever has. Star Wars has a much larger fanbase, and will most likely continue to be superior in the eyes of millions. However, there will always be those diehard fans who, no matter the evidence stacked before them, will continue to insist that Star Trek is miles above Star Wars in every aspect, which, although frustrating, is just fine in the
