Comparing Three Articles on the Film Along Came Polly
For my investigation, I am going to compare a newspaper, magazine and
an internet article. The articles are on films. The film I'm going to
do is Along Came Polly, from The Daily Mail, OK! Magazine and
www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/films/2004/02/along_came_polly.shtml. I will
get my example of 100 words from the first 20 sentences.
Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that magazine articles use longer words than
newspaper articles.

Which is better: book or movie? The age-old debate. But which is better? S.E Hinton's, 'The Outsiders' book is far superior to Francis F. Coppola's motion-picture film portrayal of the book in 1983. You might remember it from the popular quote, "Stay Gold". Today it is mostly read in middle school classrooms. The Outsiders was published by S.E Hinton in 1967 when she was a teenager. The main focus throughout the story is the feud between two gangs: The Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. "We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder too". The whole book is written in Ponyboy Curtis's point of view. So, we are hearing the story through a Greaser's perspective. It is often difficult to make a connection with a character over the big screen. You miss out on scenes that did not make it into the movie, some that were are not emphasized like they should have been, and some characters were portrayed wrongly.
About 11,000,000 people died during the Holocaust, which was organized by Adolf Hitler. Hitler was Chancellor of Germany from 1933-1945 (12 years). There were about 23 main concentration camps during the Holocaust. Auschwitz was one of them. 6,000,000 of the 11,000,000 people that died were Jews. Shmuel could’ve been one of those Jews. Bruno could’ve been one of the other 5,000,000. The book might not have been true, but it was based on the truth. The movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is not as good as the book, because the book is more detailed, and interesting.
We’ve all done it: walking down a hallway, judging someone or thinking someone is less than what we perceive ourselves to be based on the color of their skin or how they are dressed, or even their physical features. The author of The Language of Prejudice, Gordon Allport, shares how we live in a society where we are ridiculed for being less than a culture who labels themselves as dominant. This essay reveals the classifications made to the American morale. Allport analyzes in many ways how language can stimulate prejudice and the connection between language and prejudice.
The surface of an avocado, like the Greasers in S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, appears dark, thick- skinned, and tough. However, once you peel the outside of the avocado, deep inside you will find a golden heart just as you will in a young male character named Ponyboy in Hinton’s book and in the movie based on her book. Ponyboy gives the impression that he is a tough hoodlum. However, when you peel away the stereotypes others use to label his group of friends, you will find that he is a gold-hearted person. Although the movie and the book, both entitled The Outsiders, contain several similarities, they have many differences as well.
Have you ever had a dream your toys came to life? Well that’s what happens in Toy Story and Toy Story 3. In these animations, the toys talk and walk around when their owner Andy isn’t playing with them. Some may think the original movies are the best but one could disagree. Between the two animations, Toy Story 3 is better than Toy Story because of the fascinating plot, the courageous characters and riveting action.
The book and movie are very easy to compare and contrast. There are many similarities and differences between them. S. E. Hinton wrote the book, and Gray Frederickson produced the movie. S.E Hinton wrote the Outsiders because she wasn’t satisfied reading. The Outsiders was released in 1983. We read and watched the movie The Outsiders.
“Adults with any type of mental illness in the past year: 45.1 million” (APA). Mental disorders are not easy to visualize. Especially three of the most common disorders, Clinical Depression, Anxiety Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, the Oscar winning film, Inside Out, places an interesting perspective on mental disorders by occasionally panning back and forth from the main character’s head to the heads of the other cast. The main character, Riley, has five personified emotions in her head: Joy, Disgust, Fear, Anger, and Sadness. All five of these characters are given certain shapes and colors to go accordingly to what their emotion is. An example is that Anger is given
Love is a very ambitious situation, if you are not careful, it can make you do ridiculous things. As much as it is beautiful, it is also dangerous. At times you have to be attentive and be sure that the person is feeling the same as you do. Someone once told me that people fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time. In the two movies The Land of Blood and Honey and The Lives of Others, there was unexpected romance that arose from both films and it all happened at the wrong time. The obstacles these relationships face were due to promises. The promises weren’t about making changes; they were about not facing them alone. Nevertheless, where there is love, there is also betrayal.
In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time by Sherman Alexie, and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the two protagonists are more distinct than one may think. They both react differently to their challenges, and they both live the journey in different ways. They are dissimilar because of the way they receive the call, the way they react to their challenges, and the way their lives restart after their adventure.
Sunsets are beautiful. It allows you to take a breath and reflect on both the roses and the thorns that life throws at us. It’s no wonder that the characters in this story loved and mentioned them so much. The novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a fictional story about two rival gangs in Oklahoma who may see the same beautiful sunset but still experience the world in different ways. The rivalry between the Greasers and the Socs become violent and Ponyboy Curtis is left behind to tell us about his story. We see how each character struggles with the challenges that come with being young and being trapped inside limiting social expectations. The theme that stereotypes do not always define who you are is developed in this story when Ponyboy
Movies and books can be very different in many ways. The Outsiders was written in 1967 by S.E. Hinton and was later made into a movie in 1983. The movie version of the book had to cut out scenes and change things that ended up creating several differences between the two. The main focus will be the plot of the Outsiders in the book versus in the movie. There are many differences between the book and the movie.
Into the Wild, a novel written by Jon Krakauer, as well as a film directed by Sean Penn, talks about Chris McCandless, a young individual who set out on a journey throughout the Western United States, isolating himself from society, and more importantly, his family. During his travels, he meets a lot of different people, that in a way, change his ways about how he sees the world. There are many characteristics to describe McCandless, such as “naïve”, “adventurous”, and “independent”. In the book, Krakauer described McCandless as “intelligent”, using parts in his book that show McCandless being “intelligent”. While Krakauer thinks of McCandless as being “intelligent”, Penn thinks of McCandless as a more “saintly” type of person.
People have dreams and aspiration that they fight to achieve. In Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman and Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun the characters of Biff and Walter, Jr., are fighting to achieve there dreams by any means necessary. Their families support them in their endeavors to become a successful businessman. I believe that the characters of Biff and Walter, Jr., are both character who are struggling to achieve their dreams and provide a better life for their family.
The Swing Kids movie was incredibly moving for me and really made me have a heavy heart for the all those affected by the Nazi party, and those who had to endure all of their atrocities. From the Jews to the Gypsies, to those who were crippled or mentally handicapped, and then just the lovers of music, dancing and art, such as swing. Being a teenager during WWII and the early/late 1930’s would have been extremely difficult, especially if one had to choose between being loyal to the evil Nazi party or their friends/family as Peter had.
The classic tale of Cinderella is well known for the fight of overcoming great obstacles despite great odds. However, there are always a few ill-hearted people who go out of their way to cease any competition that they might face, as seen with Cinderella’s step-sisters. Samuel Jackson says is his distinguished quote, “The hunger of imagination…lures us to…the phantoms of hope,” to help develop a more defined view of a fairytale. The story of Cinderella fully embodies the ideals of a true fairytale by encompassing magic, hope, and struggle between good and evil throughout the duration of the plot.
