Sacred spaces exist to many different countries and religions. The architechure, location, time period, and various backgrounds considering cultures are vitals to the importance of these places. The Parthenon in Greece and Chartres Cathedral in France are two well known sacred spaces with many differences and similarities. The Parthenon was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and was completed in 438 BC. This piece of history is considered one of the most important cultural monuments to not only Greece, but worldwide. At one point the Parthenon was actually a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. According to Andrea DelVesco, Taylor Dill, and Brandon Bernstrom, "The Parthenon refined Greek architechure by replacing the usual terra cotta with the finest marble" (Classical Civilizations 25). This sacred temple is known for how extravagent and beautiful it is. The Parthenon was the center to the City of Athens, According to the video The Parthenon was used as a treasury.
